Great timing Simon - I just stopped by to review your previous video as I get my rig set up again. Lucky me - new content! Thank you!

Fantastic video! For context, I’m running a 4080/7800X3D combo with 32gb ram. I use a single 1440p 164hz curved monitor. Being new to iRacing and PC gaming in general, I assumed with my specs I could just crank everything to max at 1440p and all would be well. And so it was - but I was ‘only’ getting around 110fps. Just by lowering things like crowd, grandstands and foliage detail, together with some of the tweaks you advised in the game and windows/Nvidia settings, I’m now pleased to say I’m getting a consistent 150-160 fps! Only at the start of races does it dip below that for about half a lap. Better still, I can’t say I’ve really noticed any discernible difference in the visuals. My PC is also running cooler. Great work, Sir. Thank you very much. Liked and subbed.

Really pleased to hear that and glad the video helped. Optimizing graphics in iRacing feels like it’s one of those tasks that’s never finished but it’s nice to spend a bit of time on it now and then to give things a freshen up!

Excellent video so far, I’m only half way through! I’m up to the section about MSAA, it would be really good if you could do a video with some screenshots to show exactly what this setting affects(and other settings come to think of it). It’s all very well saying do this and do that but showing what it actually does would be really good. Future video idea maybe…

Yeah it’s a great idea, I do a quick demo for SSR but didn’t want to make the video any longer. Agree it’d be useful to do so I’ve added it to the list :-)

@@kdsammy Yup agree, it’s a pain to capture but would be helpful so I’ll aim to get that out in the next month or so

Enabling Reflex costs me about 10fps. Reflex+Boost costs me another 5-10fps. It's not supposed to impact frame rates. But it does.
@S1Races

Yeah there’s definitely something off there. It should be capping your fps at 5-10 less than your monitor’s hz rate but not an arbitrary drop, and boost on vs off shouldn’t change fps. Is g-sync set up correctly in nvidia control panel?

@@royalefurygaming2296 This is actually something that needs to be shared more widely as audio issues can often contribute to stuttering. I also had really annoying audio stutters for months and what do you know, it was simply because I was sat too far away from the USB receiver for my headset. Once I used the extension cable that came with the headset so the receiver was closer to me, the problem was immediately solved! So simple but I never thought to check that

I don't have microstutters, I get usually one massive Lag-Spike (like the game stops for 200ms) whenever a player is joining. Have that for years now and basically every single bit of the system has been changed during the time.

I’ve never come across a setting specific to that so I’m not sure. It’s possible it exists but I’ve not seen anything like that on the ini files to-date

You can find these in the “joyCalib” file (open with notepad). The default file for all cars without custom controls is in the iRacing directory, additional joyCalib files for cars with custom controls can be found in the iRacing/setups folders
