After a few years of GTs, I finally decided to jump the gun and get the ir4 on the smurf. I've always been good at iRfarming in the Vee and same went for ff1600, so I thought why the hell not. Bought it 10mins before the race, watched your hotlap while loading, kept it on track and safe against others - bam P5! I'm in love with open-wheelers now I guess. All the fear of not finishing a race due to a broken wheel is gone - people just seem to race so much more respectful and careful than GTs, so there's nothing to be afraid of! Now gonna check your whole guide. To find those last 1-2secs lol

@@Tdi99 with a bit of luck, p12 to p3. Netcode damage is kinda annoying though, as you would sometimes want to do some wheelbanging, but that's a too difficult equation for iRacing to process. Anyways - hooked to one-seaters now

@Tdi99

I don't have a video out ..... Yet. But basically if you load in to the sim, and then go to options you can load a "reference lap" which is either a Olap or Blap. O is optimal B is best The ghost will then be from that reference lap that you can follow

"Track Guide" ... I think of a "guide" as something easily reproduced by many. This isn't a guide. 20-something laps in with the last being 1:53. Sliding during multiple turns. You were *just* keeping control. This isn't a guide. It's bragging rights. Congratulations but you know this is not practical in a race. This is the type of "racing" that leads to wreck after wreck during the races because people think they're shooting for some world record instead of consistent, good lap times. I've seen many videos like this and for each race, I can hit the target time or close when I really want but my first place positions come from consistent times that are typically seconds slower, allowing the idiots that want to try to drive like this to wreck themselves and each-other out.
@Tdi99
Жыл бұрын
😂😂 Thanks for the laugh! This was a funny comment. Yes my 20 something laps times are all over the place because I try different things to see what is quickest . It's a practice session at the end of the day and running around doing the same thing over and over will mostly give the same results. If you want consistency I have a video going out tomorrow and my last 5 laps ( in clean air) were: 1:47.559 1:47.172 (slipstream) 1:47.758 1:47.645 1:47.739 All within 2 tenths excluding the slipstream lap, and within 3 tenths of my guide. Maybe instead of assuming what you think is happening, asking might be the way forward, you might learn something.

Let me preface this with . . . new to the car and trying feel my way around coming from Skippy et al. I can't get over how the car feels like it is on ice ALL the time. Still 4 seconds off your pace and struggling. Any suggestions for a newbie to the series?
@Tdi99
Жыл бұрын
Yep it feels like the rear axle is on plastic rollers some times! Please forgive this long reply! First make sure you are on the right iRacing fixed or open setup. If your following the fixed series the setup changes for each track. I love the skippy but it's a very different car, your turn in needs to be a lot smoother and later than the skippy. Skippy likes to slide into the corner, power out, this needs the "before apex" and corner exit to be a nice straight-er line than entry. Ir04 needs gentle (if any) trail brake. You don't always need to trail brake, the areo drag can be enough to slow to down into the corner. A little throttle can help keep so weight over the rear axle, but again be careful as this can cause power oversteer. Just because your on throttle doesn't always mean you are accelerating. its front end grip is a lot more than the rear so we need to account for this by using the the higher speed aero to do must of the work. Slow down in a straight line as much as you can and then smooth turn in with a little throttle to keep the rear end in check. As the car gets slower the grip will become less and we need to get weight on the rear axle to help. T1 & 3 is a good place to foucs on, braking heavy in a straight line and off the brakes into a slight throttle. To the apex. Once there building that throttle out of the corner. Its a huge balancing act. Biggest thing is to understand why the car lost/loosing grip. its good to make mistakes because you can learn quicker but finding what the car can not do. I know it's hard but don't worry about lap times, worry about the clean laps once you're getting clean laps you can build from there. 👍👍

@@Tdi99 You are so very kind, thank you for taking time to help. I'll have to admit that I'm a big trailbraker coming from RL racing and Skippy, so will go it a go in a bit trying to get off the brakes and get on the gas a bit more to keep the rear in check. Cheers Jim

Great lap as always, great guide, very informative! Intro was *chef's kiss* literally just 1 sentence, tells the viewer what they're watching and gets on with it instantly. Love to see it One thing I think you should consider is when you're telling us about the stuff you experienced during your practise (for example the touching the grass and going off into narnia) you should show footage of that happening. You don't need to be looking at it at the time, but during the edit just throw in a couple of clips of that happening to you while you were practising so the viewer gets a better idea of what that looks like and what to look out for
@notna
Жыл бұрын
I'll add to this point by saying that it's generally a good idea to throw in clips of whatever you're talking about even if it's not specifically to help the viewer get a better idea of the track. For example, I think having a clip of you navigating to the section for the lap files on your discord playing in the background while you're telling us about it would make that section flow really well and gives us auditory and visual confirmation of what's happening. (which is very important cause the average youtuber viewer has an attention span of like 10 seconds at this point haha). I think also you might get better retention if you show clips of some satisfying corners or sections in the background while you're talking instead of a single (really cool) freeze frame.

The clips idea is amazing! I'm a bit late but i have found that i can live record replays so while drive the guide I can clip it and pop it in the video! i agree that would look amazing! thank you again!!

nice work! its always hard to guess the track conditions before the season goes "live". Your track may have been worse conditions! brake bias, yes that is my preferred setting too! lap time wise, focus on the last corner and the one where the tree was. easiest way to gain time is down the straights!
