The process of preparing "Khoresht-e Aloo Esfenaj" began with gathering fresh spinach, plums, and other necessary ingredients. As we chopped vegetables and measured spices, the enticing aroma of sautéed onions and garlic filled the air. The plums, with their natural sweetness, were added to the pot, creating a harmonious balance with the earthy spinach.
As the stew simmered on the stove, the rich flavors melded together, and the enticing scent wafted through the kitchen. The anticipation of tasting this traditional Northern Iranian dish added to the warmth of the room, contrasting with the chilly winter day outside.
In the meantime, we prepared for "saat dahee," the mid-morning meal, which is a delightful and social occasion. The sound of boiling water for tea and the aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen. Alongside the stew, we arranged a spread of various jams, adding a sweet touch to the meal.
Gathering around the fire, we shared stories and laughter, making the cooking experience even more memorable. The sizzle of ingredients in the pot, the crackling of the fire, and the warmth of family bonds created an atmosphere that transcended the mere act of preparing a meal. It became a cherished moment of connection and joy, bringing us closer together in the heart of my grandmother's home.
