HISTORY OF IRAQ
Iraq, located in the Middle East, has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. It was home to some of the earliest civilizations, including Sumer, Akkad, Babylonia, and Assyria, flourishing in the fertile region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
In the 7th century, the region became part of the Islamic Caliphate, which led to the spread of Islam and the Arab culture. Baghdad, founded in 762, became a major center of learning and culture during the Abbasid Caliphate.
Iraq experienced periods of rule by various powers. By the 16th century, the Ottoman Empire took control over Iraq, ruling for several centuries. Following WWI and the defeat of the Ottoman Empire, Iraq came under British administration through a mandate by the League of Nations.
