I can relate with your sentiments but if it were to be done respectfully and properly it could work for everyone, granted that's one very big "if".

The outdoor tourist potential of Ireland has always been massive but without huge intervention, it will never be realized. Two of the most pressing issues are. access (Ireland's access laws are off the charts) and pollution. Having spent 20 years hiking the west of Ireland, I can tell you that access to many mountains, beaches, and scenic areas is being blocked off by overzealous farmers who fence off huge areas of natural beauty which would be considered a huge asset in any other country. In addition, Ireland's lakes rivers and streams and in turn beaches are becoming more polluted every year. (Government bodies know about this and in some cases contribute to it!) Not to mention the fact that Ireland has the lowest level of native forest in Europe bar malta where the climate does not lend itself to growing trees. The major elephant in the room is farming! Until these issues are taken seriously any talk of developing Ireland's outdoor tourism is only whimsical!

@@cruncherblock3834 That's not really the problem Sylvia, it's the unsustainable, subsidized destruction of the natural environment that really gets under my skin!

Anything nylon is not historical - not really. Why not use original technique instead of plastic that's bad for the sea when making nets. But those domes look awesome.
