Wonderful. I always remember a lovely Kerry nurse in the Galty. She ran away screaming.

Some if them might be gay, some may have come from a very abusive upbringing, some may be stuck up. In a city like London there's a million life stories floating about.

It wasn’t just Irish that had wallflowers all girls that were plain and sat out the dance were called wallflowers

@Teeisme.7224 Most plain girls were the ones who got married. Those who sat out the dances tended to be the ones who believed themselves to be worth a lot more than what was on offer in the room, those struggling with sexuality issues, trauma from upbringing etc. The smart plain ones were the ones who knew they had to be approachable, friendly etc and would get dances etc.

Hello Maureen how are you. Greetings from Ireland. Those dance halls were great places to meet and make friends. I had an uncle and 2 aunts in England all their lives. I wish you a great week, 👍😊🎶 Michael

Poor emigrants! So lonely. UK was very good to lots of them. We here and in the UK would be far better off. Socially ..

And what gives you the idea they were lonely, so many people like to give their version of how others live, one idiot said to me years ago there was a lonely man that came to the pub where she worked she felt sorry for him little realising all this man wanted was a quit drink after working with noise around him all day, wish people would stop assuming immigrants are all lonely sad it just shows the ignorance of people.
