It's safe to say that Hans has his roots in the vikings who rowed to Ireland and raped and pillaged the country long before the Irish invited the English over to join in their internal wars . Selective history is a wonderful thing. There's nothing worse than Americans giving people a history lesson on freedom and oppression. The land of the free unless your a native. Anyway, excellent video and were very proud in N.Ireland of the way The Micks and RIR represent this wee island on both the field of battle and on ceremonial duties and the way they preserve so many fantastic Irish traditions.

Without America, how long do you think London would have remained functional under uninterrupted (unless you think UK could have invaded Europe without U.S.) V weapon attack? No U.S. landing in N. Afr, no Italian drain on German resources, no daylight precision bombing, Germ develops ME-262 in peace without bomber interruption and in great number, I wonder who gets atom bomb first? I wonder if UK wins Battle if the Atlantic without USN controlling half the Atlantic and with RN stretched to breaking point.

Very nice to see the Band of the Irish Guards at Windsor barracks. In particular with the bands upcoming USA tour to start in Jan. 2010 this is a very timely video indeed. Here we see the full grandeur of the Irish Guards with the band, corps of drums and pipes & drums bringing up the rear. The drill platoons in full company strength also look impressive. This is a great line-up of the Irish Guards music and ceremonial resources. I wish the pipes were coming on tour instead of the Argylls!

Blame de Valera. He had it written into the Irish Constitution that Roman Catholicism was the state religion of Ireland. If he hadn't (it was the 20th century for goodness sake) Ireland might be united. Yes, the Church of England is the state religion of England, but it means Church of England schools are obliged to teach about other religions, and it makes every effort to see other points of view to the extent that it's members sometimes wonder which way they're facing!!! The advantage is that if we think our Leader is wrong, we tell them so, and with no fear of going to Hell.

Are you seriously equating public health care workers to soldiers? Do nurses have to swear an oath of allegiance? Do NHS doctors enforce the British government's foreign policies? Are hospital cleaners state-sanctioned killers? I agree it's unfortunate that people who wished to join the Irish Defence Forces missed out- I feel genuinely sorry for them. However, that in no way excuses or justifies joining the British equivalent. I'm in no way some kind of rabid republican by the way- far from it. Yet I believe that to join the armed forces of another country is not something to be proud of and given our history- to join the British army is shameful. This is a group that in recent decades ( not back in the mists of time) committed war-crimes in Ireland against Irish civilians e.g. Derry, Ballymurphy, Dublin, Cork etc etc. In the case of Derry they then tried to cover them up by way and deny responsibility. If you're happy to be associated with such an organisation then good for you. I won't be losing sleep over it and I'm sure you'll struggle on too despite my opinions! You might have no issues your decision but come next year as the events of 1916 Rising gain media attention I wonder how many of your friends and family in Tipp will be proudly telling strangers that their brother, cousin, neighbour, friend etc is/was a volunteer in the British Army......I wonder. Go on....tell me I'm wrong.
@eoinenglish7659

That's the problem though isn't it: soldiers aren't civilians (civvies) are they?! What biased history have I offered up? The British army haven't killed civilians in Ireland in recent years? Did I make that up? The IRFU?!! Are you serious? If you're trying to compare a sporting body and armed forces then you really are desperate. Who's ignoring the acts of the IRA? Are you suggesting I condone IRA murders of civilians? Please explain what you mean when you state"a Republic who's government and leaders since the inception of the State did little more than abuse and shame it's population." Who are you referring to exactly? I get the impression that you're someone who has had tried hard to convince themselves/sanitise their actions. It reeks of desperation which tells its own story. Maybe you think your friends and neighbours are more tolerant than me. However, what people say to your face and what they whisper behind your back when you're out of earshot may well differ greatly.

"The Irish government who took children from unmarried mothers and institutionalised them in Church ran schools and institutions. Who ran "magdalene laundries" and incarcerated the mentally ill in "homes" often for the entirety of their lives." Terrible as it was- this and similarly awful things have occurred in EVERY SINGLE country in the world. There were no sanitoriums in the UK during this period I take it? Is this a genuine argument? This system was invented by Victorian Britain and copied globally! Is this the reason you joined the British Army? Name me one country who's government you deem worthy and without blemish. Laughable stuff. "Your biased history is biased because you omitted the murders committed by both sides." I unequivocally condemn killing of civilians by any group. However, there's a clear legal and political distinction between actions of soldiers in a sovereign state's army and terrorists/freedom fighters/ guerrillas etc etc. The last citizen killed in Ireland by the British?To my knowledge 1974 Dublin-Monaghan Bombings- loyalists colluded with British military. Why limit it to the Republic though? A very sizeable percentage of the population north of the border carry Irish passports and are Irish citizens. Or is that fact my 'biased opinion' too? For a man who claims not to care what people think you're not coming across that way....and for good reason.
@eoinenglish7659
8 жыл бұрын
So you're reduced to deliberately omitting what I've written? Weak stuff. I condemned the killing of civilians the 'however' referred to another point entirely as you well know. You are aware the country you chose to go and fight for also forcibly migrated over 150,000 of its own children to other parts of it's empire- only ending in 1967. Something then primeminister Gordon Brown officially apologised for. No mention of that? The Catholic Church also abused children in the UK- didn't concern you either? As mentioned ALL COUNTRIES have skeletons in their closets. Not up to this really are you? Why limit it to The Republic? You don't consider all holders of an Irish passport/Irish citizens as equal? Probably says a lot for your rationale on joining the British Army. After all, an organisation that eagerly participated in the torture and killing of its own subjects. Why do you keep mentioning the PIRA to me? I don't and never have supported them. You've clearly swallowed too much British Army propaganda- condemning atrocities committed by your colleagues doesn't equate to supporting the Provos. Desperately weak stuff. Yes I'm from Greystones-and? So you left Ireland to get away from 'people like me'? I thought you left because the Irish Defence Forces weren't recruiting? At least get your story straight!
