Canadian here, I'm glad you enjoyed our Canadian desserts. You should know, these are the kind of things Canadian grannies bake and feed to their grandchildren when they come to visit. By that I mean old fashioned and traditional. The real old fashioned butter tarts are made with raisins but some people prefer pecans . No we don't eat like that every day, and yes some Canadians are fat (not as many fat people as in the US though) O by the way next time try just one treat, with a cup of tea. They are rather too sweet by themselves but with a cup of tea they are heaven. And if your gran is the kind who worries about 'company manners' she will serve the squares on a plate with a fork, except the butter tarts of course.

slipknot9023 The problem with poutine is while it look pretty simply, it's actually pretty hard to master. The three main ingredients (fries, gravy and cheese) have so many variations that can make your poutine absolute garbage or the most amazing meal.

I'm a Franco-Ontarian (I think that's what it's called in English) and I often go to Québec. We talk to each other in French and everything's great! Then they ask me where I live in Québec and almost every single time, once I say I'm from Ottawa or Ontario, THEY START TALKING TO ME IN ENGLISH, it's so frustrating!! Not everyone outside of Québec only speaks English!!

I am from New Brunswick, Canada. This video made me reminisce of the huge trays of homemade sweets that my mother and grandmothers use to make for Christmas. These always included date squares, Nanaimo bars, and many other desserts like molasses cookies and coconut balls not featured in the video. I do love the butter tarts, especially the variant with raisins. ‘Le pouding chómeur’ is indeed very good, but that was a bit rarer in my family. And I didn’t have a Beaver Tail until I went to Ontario. Seeing you guys enjoy all these made me happy.
