Just came across this video. Thank you so much for all your research work on this subject! I was excited to discover through a DNA related Irish Traveller cousin in England that my paternal Gallagher and Gorman great grandparents were Irish Travellers ❤️

I've often wondered about my father's ancestry such as were they connected to the same kingdoms, or migrate workers, mercenaries, ect. Munro-Scottish clan of Irish origins.

As a Romano I always sort of guessed from bits of good evidence that both Irish and Scottish travellers were Romano too we were given different names to turn us against each other.But I give Irish traveller friends that were and still known as Romano and I have Scottish travellers that are very proud Romania but are good there Scottish travellers..We know we are all the same it's just some are finding it a little slower to understand,they do show themselves to be a little slow by their racism😊❤❤❤

You could look at Travelers in the Americas which might shed some light on when different groups separated. It’s been at least 200 years.

I've recently done a dna test, I know my mother's side were irish travellers, and my dad's side were scottish / irish travellers. The big surprise was the 3% Eastern European Jewish, are there any links between these peoples?

I love anything to do with dna ethnicity and cultures…. This is a very interesting topic… I would love to see a part 2 of this subject… it’s interesting how diseases are mentioned namely cystic fibrosis which is common amongst certain populations on this earth namely Europeans only as opposed to those of Asian or African origin where it doesn’t exist… it’s also very common in the Ashkenazi Jewish English and Amish communities as well as the English aristocracy…. Communities that live in very close proximity and practiced or still practice endogamy…… show signs of these diseases….another disease that I have found is on the rise in Ireland as is in the Amish and again the Ashkenazi communities is Tay Sachs…. I have always seen the Irish as a unique tribe within Europe eg their looks are extremely distinct and isn’t found anywhere else eg Irish eyes…. And Skin tone… would love to see some Irish traveller dna 🧬 results…I believe the world in more about tribes than race….

So do we :). This is about mentality's that are cultures and we are Gaels. We are talking about psychological colonialism that went unchanged in 1922. We are talking about peace, understanding, knowledge, and forgiveness. Including the English as we blame no one, we are not the victims of colonialism. We're are the resistance. 💚

Well the travelers are ethnically Irish, though the DNA trail suggests they diverged to create a more insular community within Ireland a thousand or several hundred years ago, as I understand it.

All of my ancestral lineage is from UK…most is from west Ireland however, with these sir names: OConnor/Conroy/Calan/Malone/ Hart/McClusky/Murtha/Haney/ Campbell/Baker/Kane/Roberts/ Marren/Feely/Milton/Gallagher/ Morris/Armstrong/Austin and one of my great grandfathers was a “tinker” he died in America during the 1918 flu… his name was Baortholemew Baker

I think it makes a lot of sense to not use the term UK because it doesn’t specify regions of origin accurately ….but to use the term Ireland Wales Scotland get a better breakdown of one’s origin is apt… I find the term UK is too vague and general….

You just have to look at Irish travelers to know they're ethnically Irish. I would expect that Cromwell might have instigated some Irish to rebel against the conquerors to become nomadic.
@tahliah6691

Yes they are very distinct… I used to think that they were emulating the gypsy or Roma communities in Eastern Europe who have their origins in northern India … but some how it didn’t add up…. And this discussion proves a point… as I’m aware that the Irish travellers in England used to travel from farm to farm harvesting the crops for many years….. there are travellers on every continent that makes them native to that continent or island…. I always assumed there was a link between the Irish and Scottish travellers due to the surnames being very similar but spelt slightly different….
