They had two guitarists at that time - Adrian Smith and Dave Murray. Adrian Smith left in 1990 and was replaced by Janick Gers. Then he rejoined in 1999 together with Bruce Dickinson who left in 1993, but Janick Gers stayed in the band and they became a three guitar band. This song is one of the few songs with just one solo, in this case played by Adrian Smith, who also wrote the song.

Most people pick recommendations from the most popular songs, I am an Iron Maiden fan and I love playing their music. The construction of their songs and tunes are both heavy and harmonic. I have (hopefully) all their music, including the unreleased stuff. I grew up in an area that was very traditional and the only music that was on the radio was either pop or spanish, so the only metal we got were either bought or shared by friends. There are a few songs I don't like to play, but over all, I wouldn't skip an album.

I love seeing you dive into Iron Maiden and wanting to expand in it. I may be the first one to say this gives me gas seeing most people recommend things like run to the hills and number of the beast … these two songs are bad in comparison to the many hidden gems that they have created, they just happen to be popular. If I may, songs like DeJavu, caught somewhere in time, Alexander the Great, 22 acacia ave., twilight zone, prowler, purgatory , killers, another life, drifter, back in the village…. These songs showcase everything that Iron Maiden is and has been greatly. These are just some examples that get vastly overlooked because the shitty popular ones get recommended constant and it doesn’t do any justice to this great band.

Sorry, you are wrong, they had only two guitars until the late 90s. This is from 1986, the two guitarists were Adrian Smith and Dave Murray. Smith left the band in 1992 replaced by Janick Gers and when he rejoined the band after several years, they kept the three guitarists 😅 By the way... the first concert I saw in my life was (when I was 14 y.o.) on december 16th 1986 when The Irons played in Milan, Italy; the first song they played was this, the opening track of the album Somewhere in Time

Maiden's first 2 albums (Iron Maiden and Killers) despite being heavy, raw and fast as hell are also way more melodic and theatrical. Number of Beast album (album no 3) had its moments but I always felt that their time with Paul Di'anno as vocalist had catchier and hence way more enjoyable tracks e.g. Remember Tomorrow, Murder in the Rue Morgue, Prodigal Son.

I think that the best way to compare a song it's the studio version first and then a live performance for example U2's "With or Without You" you should have listened to the studio version first, because sometimes (not all the time, of course) the live version doesn't capture the feeling of the original. Another example is Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" The live version is waaaaayyyyyyy better than the studio (Alchemy concert) you should try it.
