I still have EQ2 on my computer. I refuse to delete it because I always come back to it. It is one of the only 4 games I refuse to get rid of, Star Citizen (which I play regularly), No Mans Sky, Fallen Earth, and Everquest 2. Like you, I also was a player (since its launch) of SWG. I would play that too if they had a pre-NGE server that included "Jump to Lightspeed". I really don't understand why they don't have it because JtL was introduced in pre-NGE. As a side note, "Jump to Lightspeed" was the first spaceflight sim that actually had ship interiors much like Star Citizen.

EQ2 was not EQ improved instead it was a completely different game to play. For players new to the genre they might like it. But coming from EQ it just was weird. EQ was like driving a go cart with a proper rack n pinion steering tight and responsive. EQ2 was like driving a go cart with a steering rope. If only they had taken the combat from EQ unchanged and added more features. But they changed everything. See World of Warcraft had similar tight combat like EQ but most of the rest of the game was different. Which is why it killed EQ and EQ2 didn’t stand a chance.

I'm just going to ask in case anyone playing in the server reads this: If I'm looking for group PvE content thats more challenging than not at all, but am deathly allergic to meta builds and rotations, is this a good fit or nah?
@Redbeardflynn
3 ай бұрын
I'm going to say yes. Challenging is going to depend on what level of challenge you're seeking so it's somewhat personal but there is group content in the game that you can't just bulldoze through. There are also no builds so to speak in this game so the only meta would really come from say a group needing one healer one tank a support and 2 dps for optimal grouping.
@rept7

@@Redbeardflynn Not being bulldozable was the main concern challenge wise. Which just leaves whether I have to do a rotation instead of "whatever the situation requires, think fast!" and hopefully, that the leveling content isn't too linear.

Terrible timing. Focus on "7-year future proofing" the tech to the point very few could run it. Simplifying for mass appeal. It was slowly strangled and the amazing game underneath was hardly seen. Greg Spence then lovingly added amazing feature and polish, but it was all too late. Around Fallen Gate TLE however, they started to correct that and then you had this amazing feature rich, polished experience that was once again engaging. eq2 was awesome when it launched. It took effort, creativity, skill, multiple attempts to do some things and was a boatload of fun for the challenge...then wow launched and a month later they swapped the entire game to EZ mode in an attempt to compete, and it was no longer a fun game. I guess if you're the type that likes clicker games, where you don't actually do anything, then you'll like eq2. I've tried EQ2 multiple times over the years and they never took it out of EZ mode, which makes it not worth playing imo. No TLP is going to reset the game to be that again, since as soon as they expand to the first expansion, it'll be easy mode again since NONE of the expansions were in existence prior to the swap to EZ mode. It's still pretty infamous if you were a huge MMO person back in the days of the golden age -- however, long since has passed. However, when I played it back in the day, it def. was not my cup of tea. I'd choose SWG over that game, Runescape over it, AION over it, Maplestory over it, and even Guild Wars over it. Reasons being, it was slow combat, confusing interface, and no PvP. Even the raids weren't up to par. However, I have not played it in a long, long time so a lot of these justifications are null because i know they've added a lot to it since then.

The issues with progression servers is that you go through the expansions at the speed of light then the world moves on without you... and the Bugs in EQ II makes the game unplayable for many people.

I never tried EQ2 after years of EQ1. I was turned off because of the lack of pvp and went on to WOW. I'm thinking I might try it now, after you video.
