I saw the first Deadpool in theaters without really knowing anything about the character at all, and only having seen the funny trailers/ads. I was totally unprepared for those emotional moments. I didn't expect it to be anything more than a goofy super hero movie, but I still think about those intense scenes.

Right? I never really got into Deadpool comics because I thought it was all cheap jokes. I was genuinely rocked by all the heart when I saw it in theaters.

I love the idea that sincerity has more staying power than irony - it rings true for me. Also nice deep cut with that Superhero Movie, seems like it could be included in analysis a lot more often given the superhero craze has never ended!

"An over abundance of ironic humour can reinforce a sense of nihilism, making nothing matter because everything is a joke." Well, that sums up my life a little too well.

I get that too, it can be hard to embrace sincerity. But it's worth it!

Great video essay as always ! Thanks for showing the value of sincerity. I found it was lacking in the two last Tarantino's movies , to feel invested in the story. Too much irony without meaning

Thank you! That's interesting, I hadn't thought of those films that way. To me Hollywood felt like one of Tarantino's more personal films, but it's been a while since I revisited it. Thanks for sharing!😁
