Irresistible Lebanese Dessert Recipe Revealed
Layali Lübnan - Lebanese Nights
Ingredients
For the custard
Semolina - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Full fat milk - 2.5 cups
Vanilla essence - 1 tsp
For the cream layer
Fresh cream - 400 ml
Milk - 200 ml
Cornflour paste - 3.5 tbsp cornflour+5 tbsp Milk
Sugar- 2.5 tbsp
For the sugar syrup
Sugar - 1 cup
Water - 1.5 cups
Lemon juice - 2 tsp
Rose essence - 1 tsp
A handful of crushed pistachios and some dried rose petals for garnishing.
Method
Preparation of the custard
*Heat a thick bottomed pan and add semolina,sugar and milk to it.
• Mix them well and keep stirring on low flame until the mixture thickens.
• Switch off the flame and add vanilla essence.
• Pour the mixture into a greased dish and spread evenly.
• Keep it aside to cool.
Preparation of the cream layer
• Take another thick bottomed pan and add cream,milk and sugar.
• When the cream starts to simmer add cornflour paste.
• Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on medium low heat.
• Switch off the flame when the cream thickens.
• Keep it aside to cool.
• When the cream cools down,pour it over the semolina custard and spread evenly.
• Garnish it with pistachios and rose petals.
• Refrigerate it for 3 to 4 hours to set completely.
Preparation of sugar syrup
• Add sugar and water in a pan and bring it to a boil
• Reduce the flame and cook the syrup for another 2 minutes.
• Switch off the flame and add lemon juice and rose essence.
• Keep it aside to cool.
*Once the dessert is set , cut it into desired size pieces and serve.
• Pour the sugar syrup over it before serving.
