On May 29, 2024 Irvin Nelson sat down at his home in Ault, Colorado and told of his experiences in the Army. Irvin was born in Denver and raised in Ault. After he enlisted and basic training, he was sent to the Washington DC area, where he was handpicked to join Company A of the 3rd Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard". He had been chosen as an elite member to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After his stint there, he requested a transfer to Korea, where he was up on the DMZ. After his service, Irv returned home and went back to agiculture, where he would have a long career. He also met and married his lovely wife Dorothy. They have been married for 65 years and have three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (at the time of this interview).
