You can take incredible photos with even a Nikon D80 which is a 10mp DSLR from 2006, so a 10 year old camera is perfectly adequate, especially because 99% of your photos are going to be viewed on a phone. In a lot of ways photography with older digital cameras can be more rewarding and fun because their limitations force you do be more inventive with what you’re actually shooting in front of you, and you can’t just “crop it in post” because of the low MP, putting a greater emphasis on trying to get things just right in camera. The only people who actually need the modern top of the line stuff are the real serious pros, particularly those who deal with big prints.

There’s not “setting” that just works. It all has to do with the amount of light and the direction that light is coming from. It changes moment to moment all day every day. You changing them to find the best ones is the entirety of photography. That’s the deal. You find the settings, all day.

At a certain level it makes it easier. But my old nikon d40 had very limited iso exceptable iso range which forced lower shutter speeds and a lower apperaturr. My d800 however looks fine at a few thousand iso allowing my standard f8 , 1/200 shutter for street
@mateleber

Gear matters to a certain point. A ten year old dslr with a kit lens is still better than a smartphone. All these camera comparisons doesn't really matter if you use it to shoot static subjects in daylight. Once, the night comes, a ten year old dslr pretty much sucks (but still better than a phone). If you buy an entry level mirrorless camera with a 5000 dollar lens, the photos you get will probably be better than what you would get from a modern 5000 dollar mirrorless and a 50 dollar lens. But if you're not perfectionist and you want to capture something imperfectly, everything that has an interchangeable lens mount and full manual settings, can be professional.

Almost all cameras you can find these days will take photos in RAW 14 bits, so if you pair it with a nice lens like the 50mm f1.8 you're gonna get awesome images for IG, you just won't be able to print these photos into those big giant frames, or to record in high quality, which isn't a bad quality if you're just a photographer
