I loved spending time in Manitoba playing my tenor. This Baritone sounds awesome. What type of strings have you had the best success with? I’d love to get you into City of LIghts Ukulele Fest in the future. All the best - Kevin

It’s a steel strung resonator. I generally use D’Addario or a store brand if I can’t get them. I’ve added a surface mount pickup to this Uke as well now.

Thanks for the tips! Good point about using a capo to get a tenor and buying a more expensive instrument. I think it's a Kala KA-SMHB for me.

Excellent points here, Hal. The sustain, as you point out, and the depth and richness of the Bari after years of hearing mainly tenors is beautiful, I think. Also, gents of a certain age, I’m sixty five, find our vocal range deepening sometimes. Having the lower notes to sing with provided both comfort and variety. I was discussing the idea of what I call “plink fatigue” with another friend lately. After one of those long weekends at a uke Festival, especially hearing group jams, one might be excused for wanting to dash downtown to hear some standard acoustic guitar music for an evening. Also, my friend, I’m happy to see you looking and seeming to feel so healthy. Here’s to you. Thanks for all the great music and info.

Alan Thornton , not so much your voice as your hearing. We lose those high frequencies and lower pitches sound richer in comparison

Yes it was a custom job. The builder no longer builds though. You can get a custom one from Fred Casey though. www.cfcaseyguitars.com

For what it's worth, I love my baritone uke! I do think it is the best EVER. I am an older singer with a piano background who is kind of intimidated by the size and scope of the guitar. I discovered the bari uke a couple of months ago and am completely OBSESSED! I would recomnmend it as a valuable add-on for any musician. :)

Baritone tuning is DGBE , correct? (which is guitar tuning). I don't think you mentioned that.......

I've been posting the capo trick on a ton of bari uke videos, no one seems to get the fact that the pitch relationship between the strings is the same.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Baritone. I might have missed it but are you using standard gCEA (low G) setup on this or the more traditional DGBE? I'm thinking you have it with gCEA. My recently acquired Baritone is setup with standard re-entrant GCEA but I have ordered a couple of sets of strings to try. (both of the variations I've mentioned above)

I have it in traditional DGBE tuning. I've been considering trying the new low GCEA tuning though.

Hello Hal, Have you tried the GCEA tuning using a low G on the baritone ukulele or do you think it adds too much stress on the longer neck?
@HalBrolund
5 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that yet. I'm interested in trying it because I'd enjoy hearing the trad uke chords one octave below. It might be lovely. I think you'd have to get strings of the proper guage though.

Hi Hal, If it’s an octave lower, wouldn’t that make it an octave ukulele tuning? I would like to try that as well. I have thought of using the eADG strings from a classical guitar set and tuning them up to gCEA. I presently have 2 baritones with Aquila gCEA strings. I find the string tension higher than I like so I have them dropped to eADbGb. I really like the tone and string tension. I have a sound sample on my KZitem channel if you are interested.

Sir, Which one has longer sustain? Capoed Bari in 5th fret or Tenor Uke? thanks before.

I believe a tenor will sustain longer than a capoed baritone. Although I've never tested this.

@@HalBrolund Thank you , Sir. I wanna buy for a Bari. I have Tenor Uke and I love sing with it cause pretty easy chord shape to suit with my voice. for example Gm, C, F. easy for Tenor but hard for Baritone. But I really wanna more bigger fuller sound of Bari. But I really concern 'bout Shorter sustain of Capoed Bari..

Sure it will sound the same but in a lower key. A C in tenor uke is a G on the baritone.

I like the baritone uke. One really interesting thing about it is that it is almost identical to the first guitars. Originally the guitar only had four strings tuned Dgbe just like the baritone uke. the fifth and sixth strings were added (if I remember correctly) during the baroque era to increase the bottom end.

Thanks for the video Hal. What is the tuning that you use on your tenor instruments? Do you use a Low G on the 4th string? Thanks for the baritone info because I am waiting on one to be shipped. I like the versatility also.

Yes I generally use a low G on my tenors. I prefer the extra bass it brings plus I use it to create bass lines when I'm looping.
