I added one to my Ultegra 8100. It does make the shifting crisper. The other benefit I've found is the chain is much quieter. I think with the exact and repeatable derailleur movement, the chain is centered on the cog better. The biggest downfall is that they are bike specific. Also for Shimano, you need to have a shadow derailleur, which I think most are. When I added mine, I had to adjust the micro adjustment one click down to zero. It was on -1 with the b-link (two piece) hanger.

Thanks for the review, if you only had to update once would you go oversized pulley wheel or TI derailleur hanger?

I would go for the derailleur hanger. Reasons being: 1. I could genuinely feel a difference on my bike set up (it’s hard to say if you will on yours or not) 2. It’s alot cheaper of an upgrade The only reason I would go for the OSPW is if you like the look of it on your bike. Which I personally do. Others don’t like the way they look.

Has the hanger made it easier (or harder) to do rear wheel swaps? I put my bike on and off my indoor trainer relatively frequently, and it's kind of a pain with a thru-axle and disc brake wheel using the standard hanger.

It’s a good question. I haven’t personally noticed a difference really. It seems about the same. Other anecdotally have definitely said that it is easier to remove/ install the rear wheel but not something I have noticed myself

4:02 We weight weenies don’t argue in percentages, the game is $/Δweight. This at USD 100 for 6g is just not attractive in terms of WW. However, with replacement dropouts for like 10 €, and your LBS being able to order a RD without the hinge for about 7 € less - makes a one-piece for about USD 30 appealing.

I have the FramesandGear hanger that Pog uses, I think shifting (Dura Ace) improves, it’s marginal but it’s crisper. Dura Ace 9200 is brilliant this elevates it. Not sure what happens if you crash!

I got one and have enjoyed it, hard to measure difference but likely marginally better, and cyclings spend more on less.

It's cool and all, but all this "we can charge a lot more just because it's a cycling specific product" is just getting out of hand. And Silca is by FAR the worst when it comes to pricing, they think we consumers hate having money. This geardrop will set you back €100?!?! get a fucking grip Silca

Cycling has become way too much. The barrier to entry if far too high. Whilst it doesn’t excuse the price, on the other hand I am going to defend silca a little for this one. Titanium isn’t a cheap material and a small 3d printing machine costs upward of $250,000 + the r and d in wages for the design. Silca also are so confident in their products they offer a 25 year warranty on every product they make. The idea for their business is that you only have to buy each product once and you can service it forever (mainly their pumps). So it may be expensive but you might only have to buy one in your lifetime. Finally I think there is always going to be a premium brand out there and Silca is for cycling in their quality (from my experience). With all of that being said, it does feel like most companies think they are a high end premium quality manufacturer in cycling and charge a high premium. That’s why I want this series. To decide what is worth your money or not.

@@cyclingunboxed 25 years is nice and cool but i`m pretty certain that hanger will be outdated with the next bike and/or generation of RD. Silca has some really nice products but this is just for the bling.

Great video. I have purchased the Silca Ti hanger for my bike and am getting ready to get it installed. I am running a manual Shimano 11-speed Ultegra setup (which works flawlessly) on my Pinarello Prince. Given that the mechanical shifting is not as precise/quick at the Di2, I am hoping that I might notice more of a difference than I would if I were running Di2. I will report back the results! My next potential purchase is a higher-end bottom bracket, I am looking at one of the Enduro brackets. It would be fantastic (for me) if you featured that product as a part of this series!

That would be interesting to know on mechanical. I run mechanical on my TT and it does shift as well and di2. I hope you enjoy it! Ceramic bottom bracket for this series incoming (not endura but highly reputable brand). It will be on the bike next week so video out in a month hopefully. Not something that ever bothered me but apparently there is a difference from the shimano one on my bike at the moment.

@@cyclingunboxed I anticipate a noticeable improvement in shifting performance/crispness w/the Ti setup. On the bottom bracket, I don't anticipate a noticeable performance difference, rather, I am switching to the Enduro BB due to the quality reputation and the lifetime warranty.

This derailleur hanger has not been thought through. No frame, wheel, Hanger combination is perfectly in line. Hangers need the ability to be bend to align it. With this hanger its imposable because it acts like a spring.

I guess you only need this with shimano? All my sram group set just bolt on with one mount
@cyclingunboxed

It’s a good question! Silca claim less of a stiffness gain on sram, only a x5-7 times stiffer compared to 8-12 for shimano. Sadly I can’t test this out for myself so the effect may be lessened. I would like to know now from any sram owners?

@cyclingunboxed feel like it would make more sense on shimano getting rid of that extra link piece, on the sram seem like a lot of money for no reason , as they bolt straight on the mech hanger anyway

Silca used "modern algorithms, software, AI, ... ". No. Just no. Please don't go there. This is what idiots do to sound like they know something, throw around buzzwords to dazzle other idiots. Did Silca say this? If so, they are stretching reality into the absurdity of marketing bullshit.

They did. It comes from their website. I must say, I find it hard to see that a human designed that structural infill. It may not have taken long but there is no denying that’s it’s very intricate. Do you not believe that a lot of these new product’s have an AI influence? If so I would quite like some links that can show this to me?
@ericmercer9208

@@cyclingunboxed Silca did not invent the infill pattern or use "AI" to design it, although I don't blame you for not knowing. It is common in 3d printing circles. I am not sure how yt handles links in comments but you can look up "gyroid infill" and look at the images to see many previous examples.

I like these but the Silca ones are ugly and fragile and don’t come straight often and break when straightening. I got one from wheels manufacturing instead and it was half the cost. This is not a fault of your frame but Silca’s shitty QC which is odd as most of their products are top notch. Numerous people have had crooked hangers from Silca and also equally crooked replacements.
