I think people are judging Sarr too harshly based on summer league. He is a super raw prospect, don't expect him to be a typical number 2, and remember that Scoot went number 3 last year and looked awful all year and its still early to give up on Scoot. Realistically it meant nothing and where he can and should focus on exceling first is defense, then he can develop a more consistent shot and suddenly he is super valuable

@rome8180

Personally, I never got the theory of Sarr. His draft ceiling was said to be Jaren Jackson. Don't get me wrong, JJJ is a very good player. But if that's your ceiling? Is that really worth the #2 pick when there's a good chance you don't even hit that ceiling? I think the draft evaluators really got this draft wrong. Their obsession with "potential" caused them to overvalue these mystery box foreign prospects and undervalue guys with actual skill.
@treymatthews3353
29 күн бұрын
Agreed, but honestly it was just as much the fans fault as it was the analyst. There were a plethora of draft boards especially as time went on the didn’t have Sarr #1, but fans and influencers alike were talking as if potential was the only thing that mattered and why they had Sarr #1 even though he had far more weaknesses than strengths that were really obvious.
@blablablaa14

What wa Risacher's ceiling? You had to pick someone at number 2 and no one's ceiling is that high
@georockmann7113
29 күн бұрын
I don't think you understand how valuable JJJ archetype is. Someone that brings you dpoy level defense, protects the rim, plays great helpside defense, stretches the floor and gives you around 20 ppg is someone every team wants. On top of that he has a high defensive floor. Someone like that is definitely worthy of the second or first pick. JJJ himself went 4th in a much stronger draft class. Also the draft is all about potential. They're trying to take the one who will benefit them the most in the future meaning someone with a high ceiling. Not just someone who might win roty but has a lower ceiling. If the cavs knew in 2013 that giannis would become who he is a few years later then they would definitely have taken him number 1 even if he would've struggled early on
@treymatthews3353
29 күн бұрын
@@georockmann7113 while I agree with JJJ’s archetype being extremely valuable, JJJ was a far better player entering the draft statistically and visually. JJJ was already a reliable shooter with elite defensive ability in college, while Sarr’s skillset is unproven all around. Sarr’s JJJ comparison has much more to do with Sarr’s measurables and highlights rather than his actual production. While he does have the potential to get there, I’d say his bust potential is far higher.
@georockmann7113
29 күн бұрын
@@treymatthews3353 Like I said the draft is all about potential. If he has the potential to bring you everything JJJ brings that's good enough to take a chance on him. Especially for a team like the wizards that are rebuilding and can afford to invest a few years into sarrs development. And even if sarr won't reach that ceiling his floor would still be someone who's good on defense, run the floor and catch lobs. At worst he'll still be a valuable roleplayer next to whoever will end up being that guy for the wizards

Something that ppl don’t seem to take into account is Sarr’s confidence to keep taking shots and his shooting form. Washington has probably been the worst drafting team of the last decade. They've had so many lottery picks and have only gotten busts or nice role players. And for some reason, they traded away maybe their best draft pick in that time period (Avdija). They recently got new management, so hopefully they can buck that trend. But they're not off to a promising start with Sarr.
@mr.rationale8808
27 күн бұрын
They drafted Bilal Coulibaly and Tristan Vukcevic last year and I like those picks. Sarr has yet to play 3 yrs in the league so how do you know that the start isn't promising. This Summer League play is just free for all, pickup. Do what you want to do. If anything.......we've learned from summer league that Sarr isn't a "pickup style" ball player or what the kid's would say, a "hooper". He's a guy who needs structure and a defined role. He seems like a good kid, who'll be coachable and work hard. Wiz also drafted Bub Carrington at 14 and he looked great. So I think their new FO knows what they're doing and what type of team they want to build. Positional size, length and defense.
