Pet parents often worry their dog or cat is too old for anesthesia. Another concern is if the pet has another medical condition, they should avoid anesthesia completely. This is a huge misconception that prevents many dogs from getting the surgery or procedure they need, like a dental cleaning.
In reality, fatal complications from anesthesia are very rare, regardless of their age or health status. Still, Dr Sue, too, was worried about anesthetizing for her own pet, and put off her dog Matilda’s dentistry and teeth cleaning. In this vlog, she talks about the pros and cons and anesthesia-- especially in senior pets-- including early detection of oral cancer.
