When I was stationed at U-Tapao, 74/75 we used to go to Ban Chang for movies and food. My favorite was a burger place called Snoopy's run by a retired GI. Must be long gone. We'd also go to a small army post by Samae San for fried chicken. There was a place called Newland with lots of bars for GIs. I don't remember exactly where it was, but I remember passing the then famous Swan Hotel.

Pizzeria on the bar street is worth visiting. It is expensive but the guy is Swedish and he keep the place in good shape. Half of the visitors are locals. They do not short change you and im sure the owner is just a honest bloke. I am amazed how he survived the pandemic. i was stunned when i saw it was still around. I don't think I'd ever get tied up with buying and trying to run any "entertainment" business in Thailand in good or bad times. Actually the idea not limited to Thailand. Just better to have a very solid retirement and be a customer rather than a proprietor.
@gkprivate433
4 жыл бұрын
my first visit there was 2004. I almost, almost bought into some places in 2005. One place was an internet cafe, one place was a very busy bar of decent size that also had two floors of rooms above it. The prices were OK but the terms were hard to swallow. Having had family restaurant and bar in the USA I was well aware of possible issues. Inspectors, license shake down, competitions filing complaints, reliable help that would stay and not be theifs. Local Mafia bribes, utilities, etc. Then of course dealing with nutty drunks and the drugs. Then the Key money turnover concept Pattaya uses. I have no idea how well the bar would have done. Maybe that would have been OK. The internet cafe would have gone bust as smart phones and wifi took over. 15 years of my life and who knows what would have happened. Instead I stayed on my engineering contract career. Now at 63 years of age I am a single millionaire and can and planned to semi retire to Thailand. Then COVID showed up and no idea when I can even visit the country freely again. Oh well. Time to go buy my retirement home with a pool in Melbourne, Florida. There is a nice Thai community there and a very pleasant Thai temple in a nice outdoor setting. If I can't go to Thailand then I will bring Thailand to me
