You're the man, Luke. I trust your reviews. I think the AquaQuest 15x15 is more my style. Tarpology is an interesting subject. I've experimented enough to know the tent tarp setup is my favorite but requires a lot of square footage-- a 10x10 being the least amount needed. So . . . I'm tempted. Very tempted, price being somewhat a consideration. I find it's better to pack a tarp either over or under the backpack for quicker access and deployment. If bad weather comes in you're ready.

My 10*10 guide tarp ripped during a really bad wind storm, probably due to user error (the fabric ripped at the seems from the webbing). I contacted the warranty team, sent in some photos, and they replaced the tarp no problems. I added a small amount shock chord to my guys to make sure I'm not over tensioning them and have had no issues since. Used it in some heavy rain too and have always stayed dry.

If you think about it, it's worth every dime. It can be a cure for leaky tents....never use a fly again. So much space that not only is your tent guaranteed not to leak, you will have livable space for chairs and gear, also if your tent is all mesh but the fly causes condensation, you simply adjust the tarp to get airflow after leaving the fly at home. Anyone struggling with leaks and condensation/poor air flow could get some serious use out of this.

I have this and the defender 13x10. Car camping with friends this is the ultimate way to go. Some 1100 battle cord with this tarp made the nasty storm go away. 2 SUVs ant one end and tie out the rest. 13x10 made a changing room. 8 of us in straight rain for 2 days with strong winds. Worth every penny.

About 4 years ago me and my girlfriend went to a family reunion and there was 12 of us and we had to camp. We bought a 16 person tent from Wal-Mart for 270 bucks and it still works good. It fit 4 queen mattresses and 4 twins and we had plenty of room. This trap would of been a great idea to put over the door and had a place to sit out of the sun and rain with plenty of room for us and 200 bucks is pretty cheap for a good tarp like this

Years ago, I thought the exact same thing. Until my 16’ x 16’ Noah tarp completely let me down in a downpour. At that point, you’re getting wet and there’s nothing you can do about it except put your raincoat on under the tarp. Fortunately it only lasted a couple of hours one morning at which point I balled it up, broke camp and when I got back to the truck, disposed of it in the nearest trashcan. I went right out and got an Aqua quest Safari. No regrets and it has never let me down.

I've been a tarp user for decades and this 20' X 13' is the way to go. I like the many ways it can be put up. Care and maintenance of tarps has been my downfall over the years, but if you take care of the tarp, it will be serviceable for years and years. A tarp is a tool that does need to be taken care of when it's use is over. Cleaning at home after use, drying off at home after use. close inspection after use at home. A tarp will not withstand a blast from a 20-megaton nuclear explosion, and I must confess that my tarp uses are close to a mushroom clouded event. You get what you pay for when it comes to tarps, and I've had cheapies that only lasted for one trip outdoors by being ripped to shreds by the wind. A poncho is just a smaller tarp with a hole in the middle for your head. I endured and enjoyed many a rain filled day hunting with a poncho on. Even with this huge 20' X 13' tarp I would carry a poncho along just in case. Thanks a million for your great reviews!!!!!

I've spent an entire day in the rain-from before sunup to just after sundown-in a poncho during deer season. Ponchos are great. But if you're camping, a tarp is a great thing to have, even one of a much smaller size than 20 x 13.

I have a question :) I've watched a lot of tarp vids, and a lot of your tarp vids, and bought this tarp. I camp about a week a month in my SUV & tiny travel trailer -- I like to set up a tarp to cover the trailer and part of the SUV when it's going to rain. The info that I'm struggling to find is how to work angles so that there's little to no pooling and water drains off where I want it. I'm sure the info is out there, but when I try to search for it I get different freestanding shelter ideas. I don't know the proper terminology to find the info I am seeking, lol. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a hard time justifying the purchase of any tarp or tent these days that has a PU coating of any kind. The PU coating has degraded and peeled on one tent, one tarp and has started to go on two dry bags so far, which means these products are basically done for. A Si/Si coating is much easier to fix on your own. You just need some silicone and mineral spirits to make your own sealer and this stuff is dirt cheap. Also, silicone treated fabrics are much more slippery, so they easily slide back into the stuff sacks.

About 15 years ago my sister Maggie and I drove from Sacramento to Spokane WA to visit my brother. We had a barbecue with about 12 people and it started to rain. People were like oh s..t what are we going to do we’ll all get soaked. Maggie knew how to set up tarps and was a heavy equipment operator for the local utility district. All us big tough guys were standing around wondering what we were going to do but Maggie said nothing and walked over to her truck and pulled out a tarp about the size of Luke’s tarp and started tying it off to trees trucks bushes, anything she could find. Us big tough guys tried to help her but finally she said look guys I appreciate the help but you’re just screwing it up, let me do it by myself, and she did. It rained and all of us were under Maggie’s tarp the whole time, no problems. She was a feisty little Irish American woman, only weighed about 130 lbs, always carried her S&W 357 with her when she went camping, nobody messed with her and very few people won an argument with her. Unfortunately she died a while back from natural causes, she was something else.

What would you say about a fire underneath? I don't mean a raging bonfire. I'm seriously considering how to make this work as cover for my deck. Rain is a way of life in western Washington. My downstairs deck is directly below upstairs one. Got plenty of ways to stake out. Far cheaper than building something permanent. Just my thoughts.
