A big change from BMW towards the market of people who always wanted a GS but feel intimidated by its size. It’s a bold move with the new design and a bit like marmite but whether you like it or not, so far from all the reviews I’ve seen from various motorcycle journalists it looks much better, easier to ride and manoeuvre and it will sell! The best review I've seen so far. Very even-handed. I bought my first GS (R1150GS) in 2001 and have ridden it a lot both touring and off-road. The newer 1200 and 1250 versions did not inspire me due to their bulk and weight. As I have aged, my ability to handle a heavy bike has diminished. I rented a 2021 1250 in Spain and rode from Barcelona to San Sebastian up the Costa Brava and through the Pyrenees Mountains and back. I enjoyed the new features, including the riding modes, better shifting, and power increase over my old oil head. However, I found myself wishing the bike was a bit lighter and more nimble. The new 1300 seems to meet my needs in the redesign to be smaller, lighter and more powerful. It may finally be time to upgrade!
@dougiequick1
9 ай бұрын
Is the 1300 REALLY any lighter? Spec wise yes but they apparently removed items that if added back would leave the weight the same? Meaning you could strip those same items OFF the 1250 and have the same weight? Seat height is the same? what is "smaller" now? Yes all new design but WHERE is it more compact other than slimmer at tank/knees? Guess I have to ride one ....which right now is impossible

Agreed with other comments (I just picked up my GS13 Trophy yesterday). Without the “pro” suspension, but with case/head protection, skid plate, and center stand even BMW state mine weighs 550lbs wet. It is noticeably less bulky in the front though. Check it out, but watch the options if weight is a concern. And make sure you get those forged wheels 🤘🏼

Well, I just did the test ride today. Power was good, but shifting at least on the test bike was an issue, causing the bike to jump occasionally with shifting. The test bike, with all extras, felt really heavy! Definately heavier than expected. The question is, is this the right approach and for who? This bike in my opinion, has less presence, less comfort, less room for pillion and smaller paniers. The suspension in sport mode was jumpy on B roads, in road mode was better. I really missed the plush ride and the feeling of the 1250 gs though, the 1300gs feels more like a sport tourer, not like an adventure bike.

It most likely is better than the sum of its (very expensive) parts but I am underwhelmed. The looks are just meh. The colours are drab and the front end is hideous, with a radar gubbin where the headlight should be. Once specked up with a few trinkets most people would want to have, its over £18 000! BMW are having a laugh. You can get an 890 adventure with every worthwhile option fitted for £14 000. Its also lighter and in my opinion, better looking. I know where my money would be going.

Most salient comment on this thread. I saw one in Shrewsbury on Monday and was underwhelmed by it. I also struggle to see the appeal of it when, as you rightly say, a middleweight can be had for way way less that does 99% of what the behemoth GS does.

Not so. I currently own a KTM and haven't had a problem with it. Due to change, fancy an Aprilia tuano factory but their reputation for problems and sparse dealer network scare me a lot more than KTM's. I admire BMW's commitment to R&D. The Japanese manufacturers used to be the gold-standard for this but I just don't see it in them anymore. The price of a new 1250 is simply a lot of money that I am not sure if I am willing to spend (cost of the bike, luggage, insurance...), so I have started to look and consider an Africa Twin 2023 -- 1100cc maybe the Adventure Sports. BMW certainly prices that bike as it's at least one of the best in the market. Given history of the bike, that should be as close to reality as we can get (with some contenders putting pressure on it of course). Thanks for the video!

Looking forwards to taking it for a test ride, just got back form a 10,000 km trip to the Nordkapp on the R1250. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xXiKs4yJspeSdaQsi=bLNxx6Q6vT12S96N

So to sum up better than the last model but not as good as the competition in any one area, the competition all excel in one area where the GS is mediocre in all. I will stick to my better handling, faster, more engaging and exciting Italian V4

It aint no beauty, bmw do make Ugley bikes tho doubtless capable and as usual unreliable. My f800gs was the worst built bike I've ever owned, total crap.

Nice review, but i miss to hear how the GS1300 handles when it comes to front tire noise, that leads directly to your head when driving more than 45 km/h speed I absolutely dislike the GS 1250 due to this road tire noise

It's just as oversized as it's ever been in my opinion. People underestimate the F750/850 GS. More maneuverable and cheaper to buy, own and use.

It would cost almost 20k$ with all the transportation and taxes to my country which makes the bike cost around 35k+$. It is not for everyone even you have the clean money to buy

The thing with seat height issues is not only about how tall you are, it’s about your inside leg measurement: some people are longer in the body and shorter in the leg, others have longer legs and shorter bodies.

Judging from the number of used GS's with barely any mileage you see for sale I suspect the only 'off-roading' the majority do is bumping up the kerb at their local Sainsbury's.....

Considering most GS riders are old guys at pension that ride like grannies, of course. The market for GS is the same as the market for Harley, middle/old age middle class men.

Load of paid propaganda. The best adventure bike is one that has proven itself in reliability, with thousands of bikes of a models proving themselves over big mileage, which is probably 1200 / 1250 at the moment. Never buy the first of any model.

BMW is starting to be more marketing than engineering nowadays, prices got up and no more bang for the buck what you get, that’s why multistrada is in my garage, test ride new GS and so big disappointment… owned many GSes before, but multistrada is next level for touring on the roads.

Same here, I’ve owned many gs’s, now have a v4 rally , rode the 1300 , I wanted to love it , but don’t, when I got back on my v4 it just feels like a proper adventure bike , it’s almost like the 1300 is a new category , sport/comfort or something
