I'm sorry but Daniel doesn't seem to have a clue what Mao was about. Mao was the foremost Marxist theoretician in China at the time, one only needs to read his critique of Negation of Negation to realise that. Also, they definitely did NOT "fall into" the rural strategy. After one of his fellow Hunanese peasant activists championed peasant struggles during the first KMT-CPC alliance, Mao became a staunch supporter of the Rural line. Due to his meticulous surveying of the Chinese countryside, Mao correctly pointed out that the Chinese peasantry is vastly different from European or Russian peasantry, and could function as a revolutionary force akin to that of the proletariat. The defining moment came when CPC leadership forced Mao and his rag-tag army to attack the city of Changsha, which Mao was adamantly against from the start. The attack ended in miserable defeat but after that Mao was largely free to carry out his Rural strategy, which ultimately led China to victory.

This is a Eurocentric analysis of Socialism, you can tell with how he criticises Mao with so much insistence on the working class carrying out a socialist revolution in a peasant and backward society. Marxism is a tool for understanding the different societies we come from , we do not stop at Marx but continue his work through practice and advancing the theory of Marxism . This analysis want to potray revolutions as puritan events overlooking the different concrete conditions of different societies . Such conversations can only appeal to some small trotskyt and academic circles but are far cry away from pragmatism.

It's hilarious how leftists will defend China as "socialist" but all their argument reduces to is "they're trying really hard!" They aren't, there's nothing fundamentally different in the social relations between classes in China compared to the rest of the world. Maybe read mussolini, you wouldn't have to change your opinions on anything (curious) but you could be an even more shameless revisionist.

In the age of the internet and communication, I suggest you debate this topic with some Chinese experts. This video is a series of accusations, and the bias is blatantly clear. As someone who lives in China, I can say that a lot of what is said in this podcast is a complete fairy tale, detached from reality. It is because of my experience in China and seeing it's success that has led me to become interested in communism. as China's success becomes more evident, other people will start taking an interest too. it is only a matter of time. This podcast is a huge L and all it does is try to undermine the success of the Communist Party of China. btw, you calling it the CCP, and not the correct term, the CPC is very telling.
Fellas if you change the names of things does it change the thing itself?

Y'all are goofy. You have to be ignorant of China to call it a rival imperialist power. China is not under the control of billionaires. Look at the PRC flag. The various classes exist under the leadership of the CPC. Your analysis of Chinese billionaires is narrow and misses the key point that wage growth has been high at all levels. Inequality has been more of a concern under Xi. I expect it to increase in importance for the next decade.
