Cervical spondylosis is a degenerative condition of the neck, also called osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease, and sometimes "spinal decay."
In a very simplistic explanation, abnormal pressure over time creates degeneration in the spine. Old injuries, whiplash, jarring forces, etc. set the process in motion and it develops very gradually over time.
Many individuals with cervical spondylosis have had it for years before any obvious symptoms developed. Common symptoms include:
- stiff neck
- neck pain, worse in the morning, better with movement
- pins/needles in the shoulder/arm/hand/fingers
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- headaches
Upper cervical chiropractic care focuses on identifying abnormal alignment and function of the craniocervical junction (CCJ). Through thorough testing and a patient-centered approach, we then provide strategies for optimizing spinal health, reducing the effects of cervical spondylosis, and preventing or minimizing the progression of arthritis over time.
