Your statement to the effect of PA sucks at distributing allocated stuff... we basically just get a little Blantons and Eagle Rare every so often. Dead on. No real chance at anything else that is ever hard to get... at least that I've seen. ECBP A124, sure cause people hate it... But C923? Never even touched shelves around me. The employees bought it all for themselves because it dropped here so late, everyone already knew it was crazy good. And I don't think I've heard of anything that's actually desirable dropped online ever lasting more than a few minutes. Only Allocated I've ever seen in PA: Knob Creek 12 (Sat on shelves for 6 months... just ran out last month) ECBP (Bad Batches only, good ones sell out instantly) Larc BP (Online Only, generally not hard to get... but can't shop for batches) Blanton/ER/BT (Drop unannounced and last 10min-3hr) A Bunch of "Allocated" stuff that isn't really allocated... the overpriced Kentucky owl stuff (Takumi, etc), that Old St Nick that tries so hard to trick taters into thinking its Pappy... EC18, etc. And the occasional BTAC lottery... where you have about a 1/10,000 chance to get to buy something. Think last time there were

Yeah I’m very lucky to be 5 mins from a store that gets all the premium allocations, but depending on where you live, you’ve got basically no shot for anything ultra allocated. And in the case of ECBP (and really any batched product), they treat all the batches like they’re the same so B523 dropped in some places when C923 should have dropped. I like being able to get things at or around MSRP, but they need to get their shit together.

C923 was all over bucks county for a month straight. Its crazy how different it is across the state

Lancaster got all B523, it is wild to see how PA handles things. There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason.

When I started drinking whiskey, "smooth" was what I used to look for. Gentlemen Jack was my favorite. Over time my palate evolved and now "smooth" Bourbon taste like flat soda. Now I enjoy 100 to 125 proof depending how hot the Kentucky hug is or how spicy it is on the tongue.

Yeah, flat soda makes sense. Some stuff just tastes like bourbon water, like if you super watered down bourbon. That’s what ETL is like to me.

My ETL is descent. The nose and the palate were both strawberry shortcake with vanilla whipped cream. It pairs really good with bacon wrapped cream cheese jalapeños. The only Blanton’s I’ve ever owned had a really harsh bitter note on the backend. I didn’t even like it in a whiskey sour. I’m glad I got it traded off or I would have put it in the garbage where it belongs. I’ve got two bottles of Eagle Rare and the last time I tried it I might as well been drinking flavored water. It was flat for me. I have 3 single barrel store picks of Buffalo Trace that are leaps and bounds above the Blanton’s I owned and taste better than my ER. I probably won’t ever but another regular Blanton’s or anymore ER. I might buy another ETL if I can find one at msrp again.

See if any of the now four ETL’s I’ve had tasted or smelled like that I’d be all in, but they’ve alas been exactly how you describe ER.

@@GentlemenandWhiskey the joy of single barrels, we never know what we are going to get. I did try a Blanton’s store pick that was pretty good but at $95 I could not justify the cost as I have cheaper single barrel bourbons I like better. Someday I want to try a Blanton’s Gold and I know one of my local stores is waiting for their pick to come in.

It’s true, single barrels are all a little different

While I’ve only had ETL once and thought it was meh, I’d still buy at MSRP if I had the chance. Nice to have in the selection for others to try if they’d like. Missed it on the PA drop. Curious where Weller SR would end up in this blind.

I can only predict, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a blind, but I’d assume it would come in after Blanton’s before ETL.

Yeah that’s fair. At least ETL tastes like SOMETHING.

ETL is ok. It’s definitely not worth its secondary price.

Agreed. I have no idea where the secondary value for it comes from aside from being a BT product.

Everyone’s palate is different, your your results may vary. Your experience is not my experience tho, and it’s hard to back up objective statements like “way better”.

This dude is funny as hell how did this young guy think he’s an expert everyone’s palettes is different but I don’t agree with anything this guy says won’t be following

Hey man, I don’t claim to be an expert, nor did I claim that my palate is perfect. You are correct everyone’s experience is different, and this (like every other reviewer here on KZitem) is just my opinion. I do this for fun and because I like doing it.
