I use erythritol. I also sometimes use honey if I'm just sweetening something like tea. Today I made a low carb pumpkin mug cake and used erythritol for the mug cake. Then, instead of making a glaze, I used 1 teaspoon of raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized local wildflower honey from the PNW where I live. 1 tsp honey is only 5g carbs. And if you're like me and rarely consume real sugar then 1 teaspoon will suddenly feel like A LOT of honey. So sweet! I think society's so obsessed with sweets these days and that's why they go so overboard with sugar that they need more and more in order for it to be sweet. But I haven't had sugar in 3 months and 1 teaspoon of honey is like WOW. It was a delicious mug cake and I'll make another later as I've kept my carbs low today (trying to keep them 20g or less due to pre-diabetes, though labs came back WONDERFUL this week and I dropped my Hemoglobin a1c down to 5.1!!)

It also can increase blood coagulation, (especially in significant amounts) So it could in theory increase risk of heart attack or stroke, But shouldn't be concerning unless consuming significant amounts and it also might vary from person to person of course.

I do like erythritol but I prefer allulose. Erythritol leaves a weird sensation in the back of my throat, I can’t quite describe it. It’s hard to find monkfruit that isn’t blended with erythritol and I absolutely DESPISE stevia. Allulose is super expensive but worth it.

Have seen recent criticism of Stevia as if it will form fatal clotting as Erythritol has been medically studied to do so. Guessing Stevia is sometimes combined with Erythritol, so it all gets lumped together and Stevia gets accused of clotting issues too. Erythritol seems to be the lone culprit. At this time I can't find any Erythritol listed on Walmart's powdered Stevia sweetener, rather Maltodextrin is listed. If you are diabetic, would ditch chocolate consumption altogether because Erythritol is constantly present and your blood sugar will surge. Alternate to Stevia and Erythritol is Yacon root sweetener.

I liked erythritol, until it’s recent possible association with heart attacks and strokes. While this is still definitively unproven, I’m pretty disappointed that not only have you and Bobby both chosen to go radio silent about this possible health concern, you’re both still recommending Lakanto and erythritol as good sugar alternatives, with zero mention of the possible health risks that we are now aware of. I like you guys, and think you offer good info. Maybe that’s why I’m so disappointed. I did my own research and am now using an allulose, chicory root, and monkfruit blend, along with some stevia. I think it’s as good as I can do for now. At least I see that you like those alternatives too. So there’s that.

Because monkfruit is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar, in order to make it closer to sugar 1:1 ratio they cut it with erythritol so it’s easier for people to use.

I thought the same but I’ve seen a few videos which convinced me otherwise. Erythritol is made naturally by the human body and the study made no distinction between people who ate different amounts of erythritol, just the amount of erythritol found in blood. So it could be that yeah erythritol is bad. Or it could be that people with cardiac issues typically produce more of their own erythritol, or in other words, correlation does not equal causation. Since erythritol passes through the human body mostly unchanged and isn’t really absorbed, I find the second explanation more plausible, but I’m not a doctor, so do your research, don’t just listen to me.
