In this video we take you on a long haul, international flight in one of the world’s top-rated premium economy airlines, EVA. We’ve never flown in premium economy seats before and we’re eager to reap the benefits of more legroom and seats that recline further.
We’re flying from Seattle to Bangkok (with a layover in Taiwan). A year ago we traveled to Thailand with EVA in their economy cabin. We did not sleep at all during that flight :( We were somnambulists for our first few days in Bangkok. We woke up at four in the morning rarin’ to go and were completely wiped by noon. Maybe a little extra pampering with these upgraded seats will ease the overseas transition.
We discover that besides more legroom and seats that recline further, premium economy also includes a few other perks:
- Slightly upgraded food and drink menu (including all drinks being complimentary)
- Fun overnight bag, including slippers!
- More intimate cabin area with bathrooms just for premium economy
- Slightly more personalized service from the flight attendants
- A BIG PLUS for us: the seat rows are arranged in a 2 x 4 x 2 pattern which means that if you’re a couple, you can share a pair of seats without sitting next to another person.
We purchased our tickets almost eight months in advance (yep, Bobby loves to plan ahead). This gives us a huge price advantage as we are traveling during peak season. Each round trip ticket from Seattle to Thailand came to $1,275USD. From our research it appears that premium economy prices are usually about twice as expensive as economy seats. We could have purchased economy seats for about $650 each. But economy prices can easily reach $1300 if you’re booking last minute.
SIDE NOTE: EVA doesn’t offer premium economy from Taipei to Chiang Mai, Thailand. We are assigned economy seats for that leg of the trip. Our return trip leaves from Bangkok and we do get a premium economy seat from Bankok to Taipei.
So, are the seats worth the extra cost? Do we actually sleep? Check out our video to find out and also get an in-depth look at the food being served!
Thanks for traveling with us!
