I saw him In Chicago a few years before he died, took my brother. It was a fucking disaster lol. They kept starting songs and he couldn't hear the band and would get off time, then he'd stop the song and insult his band who were all doing fine. At one point he stopped to have someone tune his guitar and he walked over to a keyboard and started playing this really nice blues thing, just sort of toying around, then he slumpt over and people came to talk to him and walked him off stage and said the show was over. I sat through 90 minutes of the most Vanilla opener ever and got 20 minutes of Chuck Berry that I wish I could erase from my memory.

He continues to tour because of the amount of people making a living off of the fact he will still step onto the stage. The sheer (and perhaps excessive) amount of musicians accompanying him onstage when at least some of the backing is coming from a track, not to mention the amount of tour personnel that are likely accompanying them for production, sound, wardrobe, driver(s), etc. means that Frankie has to keep going.
