Exactly what we thought but after talking to all the people that have this problem - they usually experience this issue between 20k-30k miles we figured maybe the reason we didn't have it at that timeframe is because we didn't touch it. As of right now there are 8 other trucks at the dealership we have ours at that has this exact same issue. We are curious to know how many other dealerships have trucks with the same issue just sitting and waiting on this part? Trying to get any information out of General Motors is like pulling teeth. So frustrating! Thanks for commenting!

the transmission service will sometimes cause issues. when the fluid is changed it sometimes breaks sludge or debris loose or causes valves to stick in the valve body, especially allison.

@@TheRiverstoneLife it definitely happened because of the trans service, the tech that did it didn’t know what he was doing. It literally happened right after you picked it up. Over 75% of the failures are because of this. You should be glad GM is even covering it. Other manufacturers would not. FYI everything in the country has been backordered the last 4 years in every industry. Trashing GM is not a good look on your part.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. There are no easy solutions here. It seems like the part you need is on backorder, leaving your dealer as helpless as you feel. Make sure there is a special order in your name. It is never a good idea for a dealer to take parts off a vehicle in inventory. They most likely will not get paid to R&I the parts. The dealer would also be paying monthly to floor plan an unsellable truck. Transmissions do fail after fluid changes. I never go past 50K miles for that reason. Remember, pulling your RV is severe service. Lastly, GM might reimburse you for some of your expenses, but it will be an uphill battle. Be patient, follow up often, and good luck. I went through something similar with my 2021 GMC 1500 with the 3.0L duramax. My truck spent over 9 weeks at the dealership waiting on parts (Heating/Cooling manifold Circuit solenoid) was on national Back Order. I had to Rent a Vehicle to go on a family vacation that was planned months prior. It wasn't till i went on vacation and had to rent a vehicle last minute because the dealership loaner wasn't allowed to leave the state that i called GM Customer Care to start a case. GM Customer service said don't worry enjoy your vacation we will take care of you. After vacation and sent them the bill for the rental they said the best they could do was only pay a 1/3 of the price of what the rental bill cost me. Told them that would be the last GM product I would ever buy again and canceled the Yukon XL that I was about to purchase for my wife. Side note I've owned GM vehicles all my life and felt completely disgusted with the customer car. This was the First new Vehicle I have ever bought brand new and it will most likely be the last because of how they handled it.

Words of advice, find a transmission shop, have them change the fluid and filter as soon as you can (regardless of the miles you put on it thus far). Have them cut the filter open to look for metal flakes. IF there is any metal in the filter, take the filter and drive the truck to the nearest GM dealer and have it documented by them. Show them the metal in the filter, have them document it in their system, this way when (not if) your "new transmission" takes a dive, you have something to stand on as far as it being just another piece of junk. Chances are the "new transmission" was a remanufactured one, one that failed and was returned to the factory for repair. No warranty on a new transmission??? Seriously? I'd be changing that fluid every 25K like clockwork. And yes, get a heavy duty transmission cooler installed. Make sure they wire the fan to run anytime the motor is running. This will help extend the life of the transmission tenfold.

If you have a GM vehicle of any, kind you better sell. Unfortunately all the other manufacturers are in the same boat. I'm a mechanic & my bro. inlaw has I believe a 19 chevy. Had it at the dealer & they replaced the valve body & supposably flushed the fluid with the new style. It was much better for a few weeks & then was doing they same bad shifts. I took a sample of the fluid & as I suspected it had metal floating in it. He went back to the dealer a few times. They said it's normal to have some metal in the fluid. B.S. there is something coming apart internaly. Those valves can't move like they are supposed to if the is metal in the oil. Bottom line it's now at the dear & they are supposably going to ether fix it or replace the whole unit. It's just under the milage expiration. Bottom line a valve body won't fix it if there is metal floating in it. G.M . Is kicking the can hoping to get you past warranty. You people that have a problem you can take a sample of fluid from the plug on the pan. Drive the truck a couple miles to get the metal stured up first. Then go bitch to the dealer & don't take no for an answer

Absolutely NOT normal to have metal floating around in an automatic transmission, That's Dumb, For example I recently changed trans oil in a Civic with 252.000 miles on the transmission because of fluid lost due to trans cooler replacement- Radiator, That doesn't even use a paper- Synthetic filter anywhere just a very fine metal screen, Absolutely No metal, If You can see metal particles the transmission is self destructing internally, So called Mechanics shouldn't be allowed to talk this DUMB to customers, Iit's a shame 🇺🇸, For what new Trucks cost people this is a Disgrace, Stories like THIS.

Same issue with my 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD, 10 speed FAKE Allison, 28,000 miles. Never had previous service to transmission. Dealer has had my truck for 5 weeks and counting with no ETA. Opened a case directly with GM yesterday. They are escalating to someone else but don't expect any answers.

I took my 2021 GMC 3500 to the dealer for transmission fluid change at 60,000 miles because I pull heavy. The technician told me I needed to change the transmission fluid so I said no problem on the way home the transmission overheated and shut me down. I called the technician and was told after the transmission temperature went down I was told to drive the truck home. The temperature didn’t rise again. I hooked up the camper and pulled about 50 miles the transmission got to hot and I was shut down again. I finally talked to the guy that sold me the truck, I told him I didn’t think enough fluid was put back in the transmission. He talked to the owner and told me to come back the next day and ask for his boss. They installed a new filter and new transmission fluid and 15,000 miles later the truck runs great. Once transmission fluid gets to hot it’s no good. I had a Silverado 3500 2020 that GM had to buy back

Mine is a 2023 3500 single wheel crew i hotshot with so it pulls everyday mine transmission went out at 106,500 just past warranty fess told to file claim with GM and if they would do anything and they did it was a $7800 total replacement and I spent $4000 so almost met me halfway on it since this happened after some more research I have that you should treat the 10L1000 like a 68rfe cut your maintenance interval in half. I also drive my truck like you described watching the rpm’s and taking it easy during hard pulls. When this first happened they tried telling me I was pulling to much with it I told them I traded my 15 power stroke for this and it was rated do less I didn’t buy a 1/2 ton v6 I bought a duramax meant to do what I’m doing with it

The dealer has had my 2023 2500HD for 60 days now. I have had their "loaner" and put over 5,000 miles on that presently. They gave me a "comparable" loaner for my 2500....a 2024 Malibu. Yes, a Malibu. I've read that Allison sold in 2020 also that the new 10 speed is just and 8 speed with a 10 speed valve body and it's killing them. @@TheRiverstoneLife I watched because I have been a GM fan all my life. My first new one was in 1973. No real problems with any of them until my 2016 Suburban. New cylinder head at first oil change and a new crate engine at 30000 miles. It's my garage queen now because I bought a new 2020 GMC AT4 half ton with a 6.2 gasser. I may be old but 420hp is still fun to drive. Transmission would randomly drop into L5 going down the highway and stay there. Dealer could do nothing at first appointment because code was not active. Code said mid speed sensor low voltage. After a couple more visits they replaced transmission harness. $1200 warranty bill and a few days without vehicle. 2 days later it happened again so I drove to the dealer in L5. Original code was active this time and they sent me home with my vehicle still in L5. I went back when they received parts and left it a few more days. Working fine since then. I was wanting to trade for an HD to get the Allison?????

I owned 2021 GMC Denali 3500 DRW that caused me so much head aches. First time California smog in July 19, 2023- failed due to Exhaust gas sensor not ready with current mileage 28393. Took to dealer several times to fix the issue. Even the GM field engineer got involved for almost a month still not fix. Then the dealer after several attempts to fix the problem told me to take my truck back because it’s no longer under warranty. My biggest mistake is not getting a lawyer right away, instead I called the GM corporate office to complain. Once I contacted the GMC corporate personnel, lemon law attorney that I talked to don’t want to represent me anymore because they told me that I now doing the legal work. After back and forth communication with GM, this last March 2024 we settled the case. They repurchased my truck and paid me 15k less for what I paid for. Now driving 2024 Ford F-450 SD Limited.

So about two months ago, my truck started shifting down. I have a 2023 2500 Denali with the Cummins and the bulletproof Alice and I thought ….not so much. I took the check in. They checked it. It was the valve body they reset. It said it be fine to drive. I told them it says not to the service manager said it was electrical not mechanical so you’ll be fine. I drove it for about 50 more miles it did it again. I took it back to them And got a repair order started. It already ordered my part but there wasn’t a repair order so I get a rental car so then I started looking for rental cars they give you $44 a day to find a car that doesn’t include taxes or fees the cheapest truck I could find to rent here in Montrose. I believe Avis is $198 a day which is pretty ridiculous. I tried to run it for two months because that’s what I heard I would be down on that 150 really won’t do what I wanna do anyway then I found Trucks at Barco rentals in Salt Lake City but I don’t have commercial insurance. I have a business but I’ve never had a commercial vehicle. I haven’t needed it so I called the insurance companies and it was gonna cost me $6000 because you have to pay for a year upfront $500 a month , so I’m gonna work because if they have this done three months that’s a waste at this point I don’t know if they will have it done two or three months but whatever so I found a couple of trucks for with companies that I had worked for in the past, but one of them was my father‘s comp back in 1963, so his name is still on it, which makes my name still on it and they frowned that even though I could be driving a truck today They said that the name of the company reflected mine. They didn’t know if it was on the up and up what should they care they’re only putting out $1320 a month doesn’t matter where you find the vehicle. At this point, I talked to Issac , GENERAL MOTORS today and told him that we need to have a class action lawsuit and square up and I’ll put my name on the side of the building instead of GENERAL MOTORS and at least I’ll take care of my customers ridiculous to have a truck that this expensive and you get no help Other than that Turner automotive here Montrose their service manager explained to me that I didn’t buy the truck through them so I wouldn’t be getting any help from Ross Turner. I told him I’ve known Ross for years so I think I might and he said no he I’m related to him. I found out he’s his brother-in-law. I knew he got the job someway somehow other than being a good service manager, he doesn’t understand That being a service manager doesn’t just mean that you fix vehicles that means you take care of the customer too, so he should be out of there.

Sorry to hear what you’re going through and hope you get resolve soon. My guess is that these transmissions are creating metal and clutch lining debris from day one which comes out of suspension when shut down and sticks to the pan or any other surfaces that it can sit on. Then when they service it with new oil with a fresh detergent package it releases the debris that was safely lying perhaps in the valve body between the lands. That debris should never get there if the oil is properly filtered by the pickup screen. I think that’s the connection of having these units serviced and shortly after having a failure. These transmissions are tuned at the factory for smooth soft shifts “because people don’t want positive hard shifts”, thus there is slippage of those clutches at every single shift “to make it feel gentle”. The trade off is slippage causes wear and debris buildup as result. Imo better filtration and more positive clutch lockups would prevent most if not all of these issues. Hopefully you’ll be back on the road soon!

We had an issue with the smaller transmission on a GM 3.0L duramax and we had to take it to the shop 11 times in 18 months. We spent several months without our car, and the GM did absolutely nothing to help us. They'd call back and tell us that they didn't have an update every week. I told them to buy it back and they wouldn't do it because it wasn't "not fixable". They couldn't fix it but it wasn't "unfixable" - so we ended up having to trade out of it because GM was worthless to deal with.

I purchased an ltz when they first came out and now the $80000 truck is sitting in the shop with a bad transmission valve body with no eta on the part. No help from customer service. It only has 29k miles. Had me and my family going 30 mph on the interstate towing our fifthwheel. It was a very scary and stressful situation coming back from our family vacation. I use it for my business also and I going to be forced to buy another truck soon. They got me into a rental which is a car. GM only covers $44 a day, anything more you have to pay out of pocket. Truck rentals are $95 a day and my truck has been in the shop for 47 days so far. That's $2397 so far plus I'm still paying my month payment which isn't cheap ($2500) plus insurance. New trucks aren't that cool when they are sitting in the shop. I dont advise it.

When I decided I was going to get a new diesel truck, it was 2005. Wasn’t a hard choice. Dodge Ram, 6 speed manual Cummins. The choices for automatics back then was, GM, with the Allison and a great duramax, ford with the awesome torque shift but horrible 6.0L debacle. And dodge auto which was horrible. The manual was the play, I did it and still have that truck. It’s my forever truck. Hauls our 2008 XLR 37/12 with ease. Sometimes you gotta go backwards to go forward. Get yourself an early Ram with a manual as back up. 2018 was the last year you could get a Cummins manual Ram.

Unfortunately they have you over a barrel with a belt at this point and that hurts with ever strike! Or minute that goes by you don’t have a truck to do what your heart desires.
