I like to think each Doctor incarnation is based on the final thoughts of the previous. 9 loved Rose, so 10 regenerated into a young, handsome, and charming Doctor perfectly suited for her. 10 didn't want to die, but he was also worried that he was becoming too egotistical and serious, so he became a young silly person that would eventually have a lifespan longer than every other Doctor combined. 11's last thoughts were of Amy, and a strong desire to "not forget one line of this" so he became Scottish like Amy, and with a face he feels is familiar.

IMHO Peter Capaldi is the best all-round actor to have played The Doctor. He does some truly magnificent work in his time in the Tardis with his Doctor having a properly developed character arc. By the end of his tenure he's a different man to who he is here but just as brilliant. I miss him.

It seemed to take a lot longer for people to come round to Capaldi's Doctor than to Tennent or, especially, Smith, I think because he was that bit older and far more reserved and serious. Once they did, though, he certainly became one of the best overall Doctors we have ever had, for me at least. I have to agree that the writing did let him, and the show, down, sometimes very, very badly, but he was the one element that made even the worst parts bearable. Unfortunately, the writing went from poor in season 10, to outright atrocious with season 11: two or three good, solid episodes followed by, mostly, complete dreck. Thankfully, season 12 has seen some massive improvements. Jodie is a terrific Doctor, the companions (well, 2 out of 3... *cough-ditch Ryan-cough*...) are excellent. I am genuinely looking forward his reactions to some of Capaldi's Doctor speeches; arguably, among the best we've ever had.

David Tennants era will always be my fave it’s the one with the most consistent quality, the shared universe of Torchwood and Sarah Jane, the best actors, the best plots etc. Etc. I'm almost inclined to agree as to the consistent quality, but it's consistent in the same way that the grades of someone who gets 60% on every test are. Moffat's run, on the other hand, almost certainly averages a significantly higher grade but includes a lot of 10s and 20s. Tennant is great, but it's hard to say with a straight face that any episode of his run stands up to modern prestige television, while at least some of Moffat's do.

@@iusethisnameformygoogleacc1013 I’m the other way round, got loads and loads of RTD era episodes that are masterpieces, pure brilliance. And not many Moffat ones. Mark 21:24. In the movie, "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", the writers retconned in a strong hatred of, Klingons, for, James Tiberius Kirk, to have, based on his bastard son being killed by one in the third movie. When before, he was shown to be able to get along quite well with individual Klingons, and didn't blame an entire race for the actions of one. Sigh. For this movie they gave him racial hatred, just to be able to tell their story for the sake of, "moral relevance", at the time the movie came out.

The first time we saw the darlakes in this new version of Doctor Who well now old version but at the time the new version, they literally saw a darling that just wanted to feel the sun and then die... So it pisses me the fuck off whenever I see the doctor say that it's impossible for there to be a good darling because that garlic didn't want anything bad at all anymore at that point Yes it probably had done bad things before however if we judge people based on purely the actions that they've done in the past then the doctor is a monster that needs to be stopped they've killed more at any point in the new version of Doctor Who than any other being in the entirety of the universe throughout all of history and the future... The doctor killed trillions of "people" throughout all of these stories and the stories that are in books and audio dramas and things that they casually mention in those things that they don't even actually get to. Things that they imply would mean that the doctor is the biggest mass murderer in the entirety of existence and therefore we judge the doctor based on why they do these actions and who they are now. So the doctor should equally judge a darling on the same grounds that he judges himself.

I always wonder what the angle on the soldier bias was about. I can understand the doctor having a personal bias, but Clara's comments made me wonder if outside north America if there was a stigma against soldiers I was unaware of. It felt like BBC was trying to shine a light on a stereotype and humanize the Archetype through Danny, but I have never seen it demonstrated in real life. frankly with our US neighbors I'm more likely to hear glorification through statements like "Thank you for your service". Don't even get me started on the BBC's fetishization of assault rifled military to escalate drama. It's been in doctor who since the beginning of new who. first they surround you with AK's and once they have demonstrated they are in power they appeal to the progressive policies by showing the AK wielding officers accommodating their prisoners by welcoming an emotional support person in their interview room as they rendition them to the horror of their cairer. I guess my gut reaction as someone startled by this stance is it feels like a contrived made up bigotry to make the audience root for Danny as the underdog, and maybe attract a pro military demographic.
