Try-hards will never have fun with noobs, and casuals will never have fun with meta-chasers. Having a party-type system to express what a lobby wants from players will definitely help separate the types that don’t mix well together.

Rather maybe a self ID tag system... for the game to match you with. So if you tag yourself as "professional" you get lobbied with other players with that tag so you know what is expected of eachother. Wouldn't it be humbling to Tage yourself as "No friendly fire" and then hit a teammate with a stratagem. You got no one to blame but yourself. And if you don't tag yourself that, you have no one to blame but yourself. Because you had the option to specifiy "no friendly fire."

Just a note, I have 200+ hours into the game. Only the smallest percentage of that time has ever encountered any sort of negativity. A lot of these things are quite overblown online when the reality of the experience is quite different.

@1wayroad935 I probably have more than 200 hours myself, and I have had a handful of negative experiences... even so they aren't worth getting bent about, seeing as there are 100s of thousands of people playing, and I have always managed to find people willing to be friendly rather than adversarial. You take the good with the bad, and learn to judge rightly between them. I had a guy who personally annoyed me. He talked too much about stupid things imo. I held my peace, made sure he didn't actively make the match harder significantly, and finished the operation. He sent me a friend request, I accepted it but I will likely not be joining his games, but if he joins mine, it's fine, he didn't cause us to fail the mission just because he was annoying to listen to, so it's fine.

I didn't know how to do that. But alternatively I have also been kicked because friends want to make room for other friends. When you play stand in, that is just how it goes. You can't expect people to be greatful unless maybe you are responding to an SOS. I work in construction irl, so it's much the same there. If you aren't friends with the guys in your shop, you are most likely finishing the job and then going back to the hall. It all pays at the end of the day and one day you may find that group you really mesh with.

The best part of HD 2 is the fact that everything really is viable in higher difficulty IF you play as a team. Ive went from easy level 3 matches against bugs, got a decent squad who all communicated well and immediately took on bots on suicide with success. All of us around 20 so nothing maxed out or hacking, it can be done. Stressful AF, but was a ton of fun and made for such a good time we still play together. The game has more to do with working together as a team as opposed to whats meta.

Nope, is not a thing... I mean, I am not at all saying it doesn't happen, cuz it really does, in virtually any and all games out there, when playing public lobbies... What I am saying is, this is not as wide spread as some folks claim and others believe it being... Been playing since launch (north of 200 hours), and more w/ randoms than w/ friends, and of those matchmade games I am rarely the host, but also mostly at helldive(9)... and gotta say this: this is the very best community of players I've ever happen upon in more than 4 decades playing videogames... most players I've encountered are generally nice, regardless of using a mic or not, but I've asked around too, since my experiences are anecdotal and I could have been just lucky... but yeah, just cuz a random troll on the internet sparked a wave of articles from folks who clearly either haven't played that much and likely to even in public lobbies doesn't make it true... I'll repeat this cuz is important and folks have a hard time reading through stuff: _I'm not saying there's no toxicity, cuz every community, virtual or otherwise, has some level of it, but I'm pretty sure is not a widespread issue in the Helldivers2 player base_

I run a channel on a very competative game, and intentionally avoid giving 'meta' suggestions. My goal is to help players enjoy the game more... not play optimally. It doesn't make sense when only the top 5% of players actually put the time and effort in where meta actually matters. If you want to get good at a game, I get it, but 95% of people can't/don't want to invest that much to 'get good' they want to have fun instead...

Though, oddly enough, I have ran into it on lower difficulties when I just want to help out some lower level players. People have given me crap there for running off solo and not staying with the group. I think people take things a little too seriously on the mid-lower difficulties, which is really, really weird. Once I punched my team mate while we running to the objective he got up and instead of punching me back or just leaving it just unloaded his mag into me. Had to use the flamethrower more to even kill it. Got immediately kicked by the host after they said some more shit to me. So I blew us up & I even said sorry was trying to get my arc throwerbut this guy jumps on the mic says ‘Sorry? These smaller games have these gate-keeping problems. Helldivers are lucky enough that it went so viral, that you don't meet so many degenerates as they are spread more. Making strategies and builds is harmless. It's for people that want to know. I want to know for example. Doesn't mean I will play those builds, cause maybe I'm not good with it. But players are getting jaded. The initial hype to digg for liberty seems to be wearing out. Kicking because of load out is something that happens even on Medium difficulty (max tardation). Bot front is somewhat better. Problem there is getting to next difficulty as almost everyone leaves after single mission, but that's a detail I guess. But recently people started being annoying. Just yesterday when trying to further a major order, despite the odds, I joined some squad on Hard difficulty. They dropped right on the objective. We got slaughtered, of course. But I managed to get away behind some big rock where I called in reinforcements and started pressing back. Guys dropped in their hellpods and left the mission. The host and his friend... (Btw. we finished the mission with a level 12 guy, no one else joined us despite SOS beacon.)
@C4MG1RL

Yesnt. Personally, I'm an SOS diver. My experience is by and large dropping into missions going badly and trying to drag it to a success. The problem then comes in that sometimes you find out the reason they're down players is because either they don't have the gear, they are toxic, or they don't understand the game. I've encountered a lot of loadout elitism. A lot of general rudeness. A lot of pettiness and toxicity. From my experience it definitely has a problem only compounded by some comments by the dev team. Not bad enough to quit but bad enough that it's noticeable. As for KZitemrs. Personally? I have a grudge against most content creators. I greatly detest the influence they have on many fronts. That loadout videos on the "META" establish blind acquiesce and enforcement, having people not experiment and find their own joy but copy and paste what works for others. That things are clickbaited to extremes, such as a gun can't just be good it has to be "OP OMG best gun in game" or "game dying? Player count drop dead game?". How much sway they have with the devs of a game. It's incredibly frustrating seeing changes get made quickly just because some popular creator asked or complained but if it isn't creator backed it is either ignored or takes forever to happen. Or how easy it is to propogate misinformation. Like the Templin lore video saying the campaigns of the first game are canon when literally reading the marketing for 2 says it's not or playing any of 1 would tell you they're not. In short: I'm a grumpy old woman that doesn't like celebrities I guess lol. Edit: by don't understand the game I mean the stand your ground and fight every bot/bug. That's not the game. Your only qualifier on if you succeed or fail is the main objective. Kills don't matter (unless it is the objective). The side stuff doesn't matter if you don't complete the main stuff. I often find people who ignore the order because what they want is to fight the horde. Which is fine, but don't get mad and start having a fit or kicking people if you leave it public, they drop, and have the priority of the objective and not your fight.

What's with the judge's apparent ass kissing? This situation is not uncommon, as there are always a range of player types in any game community - the highly competitive, the more casual, the dedicated veterans, and unfortunately, even some complete idiots. Personally, I tend to play on the higher difficulty settings. When you're missing a team member, you can really feel the impact on the mission. If the host is an overly tryhard player who keeps kicking people, they'll end up playing alone and almost certainly won't have an enjoyable experience.

Made in the image of God wanting to rule over creation but without the authority to apart from God. I don't pay attention to Reddit or Discord so I don't hear the elitist "Reeeeeiii". I get kicked from games, I just move on. There are still lots of people who will play with you. I never care about what build someone brings to the operation as long as they aren't eating half the reinforcement budget by themself. Even then I don't care that much because sometime I eat half the reinforcement budget. I am more likely to ask them to keep their head down til they figure things out. KZitemrs and Meta is not the problem unfortunately. Meta is a great thing, from my experience in playing an MMO for a decade, the Meta helps new players or anyone in general to give a Guideline to something, imo its a great thing and following the Meta can also help for you to mold a build to your liking while being close to the Meta and helping you making content easier. And this is where the typical elitist "im special and good at the game" (btw you arent, youre 1 of millions) comes in, this is just toxicity and cant remedy it, not by Developers or Game Mechanics, as its a community problem that any game has. Yes actually the only solution is the Developers to stop these elitists, but there is no game on earth or person on earth that can or will micromanage hundreds of thousands of individual players matches, its not realistic or even possible. The only way this doesnt happen is if the helpful nice people are the larger number in a community and at that point its a roll of the dice.

Judge is correct, compare Helldivers to Destiny 2. Its the same concept. Both games strangulate themselves via “toxic positivity”. Fans that want a “forever” experience at the expense of sanity or game balance. But yeah, the game model leads to cognitive dissonance and a hostage game audience. It took over a decade over many to wake up from how predatory Destiny 2 was. I dont want to guess how long how long it will take for people to do the same with Helldivers.
