My favorite things I’ve seen this year television wise have been Shogun (although I’m upset they’re continuing it) and X-Men 97. I think a problem television has granted they’ve had to deal with covid and a strike is that there’s too much time between seasons now. It reminds me of reading comic books and they’ll release an issue without the art being ready to go. They need to plan and write multiple seasons before releasing a season. The length of time between seasons is crazy. I also think there’s just so much entertainment now that you really have to narrow what you enjoy. I love video games, tv, movies, books, comics, podcasts etc. They need to lower the window between seasons to be kept in mind by the general public. I’m now dreading watching this as whenever the last season came out I struggled to see what was even on screen because they insist on releasing in the summer.

Definitely watching Shogun next and have been loving X-Men 97. Totally agree that they're starting to forget a lot of the audience's attitudes and behaviors. And you're right that although the strike might've not impact the filming or early editing, it still likely pushed the release of this season out a year. I guess having seen the first episode, I'm also a little disturbed at the child murder, depicted in sound rather than visual. Not sure much more of this show I'll get through. But thanks for the recommendation on Shogun!!

My biggest issue is the show narrative is reductive. When I read The Princess and the Queen which is arguably more fleshed out than F&B re the Dance specifically, I remember thinking by the end that neither side deserved the crown. Because whatever foundation for justification they claimed initially withered by the end by their own betrayals. For instance, Rhaenyra and Daemon's loyalty to one another faded to black once one pursued alienation and one pursued freedom. On the green side, in addition to usurping the crown and constantly vying for authority within their own camp, they truly played the victim far too much for readers to buy that they were scheming for some altruistic or even selfrighteous cause of preserving tradition...anyway, it came across that the reason for each side's downfall was their own horrific decisions that constantly upped the ante and drove them to mutual destruction. None of that is evident in the show, other than being a victim because of others, not because of your own lack of accountability, even though the show could highlight that with Rhaenyra in season 1 and the brewing hypocrisy with Alicent in Season 2.

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention The Princess and The Queen. Agree with you 100% on this that none off the show's script plays any of the subtlety you're discussing. Perhaps it'[s too early in the narrative arc, but yes, they're making far too many of these characters reductive versions on themselves in order to get through events. Appreciate the input!!

Can't decide whether to catch up on this show or not (I am very picky with what I watch and usually very hesitant to watch a show if a season has under an 81 on Metacritic). I watched the first 3 eps of season 1 awhile ago and wasn't hooked. Have never seen Game of Thrones. Enjoyed many other tv shows this year though and am looking forward to a few for later this year.

What're you looking forward to later this year? Game of Thrones was alright but yeah this is a considerable decline in quality, particularly now having seen the first 2 episodes of season 2. Save yourself the time and frustration with its hollow characters.
