I love this song ! Hes saying his dog is barking at something outside, too lazy to get up or too startled to see for himself hes just going down the checklist of what it could be. Seeing his dog calm down and walk away hes like " coudlve been a squirrel .....OOORRRRRRR???!!! LOL

aesop is crazy and have been listening to him since the 90's, super under rated. the song with the lsd sample you are looking for is called "The Greatest Pac Man Victory in History" on the album Bazooka Tooth. That is one of my favorite Aesop songs. hope that helps

Bro, do *Ruby '81* It's also a one minute long, straight forward story. Also features a dog. A good dog. If you don't have tears coming up by the third listen, something's wrong with you.

One thing that I always think of are the beeps that play throughout the song. They are the same beeps that play on an airplane. My theory is he took an edible and is freaking out on the plane heading to India where the rest of the album takes place.

You've hit on it in other songs, but Aes has struggled with anxiety and depression, so this could be a reflection of that as well as going with the theme of the album Spirit World Field Guide; where, as you identified, the use of certain substances can also induce/amplify anxiety and paranoia. If you enjoyed this shorter, more digestible story, I cannot recommend the song Ruby '81 enough. It is a master class in minimalistic but highly effective story telling that will have you on the edge of your seat.

As someone who also struggles with severe anxiety and paranoia, this song is one of my absolute favorites by Aes. Like others have already said, it's a case study on paranoia; something as mundane as his dog barking at the sound of wind and leaves outside sets off this absolute rollercoaster of over-thinking and what-ifs. It perfectly describes the way clinical anxiety can just derail all rational thought and lead one to conclusions that one knows are illogical and silly, but can't help but keep thinking about until you're tunnel-visioned in on some wholly imagined scenario. While most of this album has to do with drug-induced fantasies and visions, I think this song is purely about Aes's struggles with mental health and isolation. Trying to get people to understand the duality of paranoid delusion is one of the most endlessly infuriating aspects of having an illness like that; trying to describe how you can become convinced of things that you know are completely in your head and make no sense is a sisyphean task, and I think this song is Aes's way of saying "look, this is what it's like in my head."
