The dramatic incident featured is based on real life events which culminated in a passenger falling into the gap between the platform and the train. Imagine yourself as a passenger on the train or on the platform if you were to witness an incident like this? What would you do? Who would you blame? Could the driver, guard or dispatch staff have done anything? Could the guard and dispatcher see clearly what was happening along the platform? Were they too busy with other tasks? Should the train have been allowed to depart? Was it safe for the train to depart? Is it ever safe to depart?
Think this doesn't happen in real life? WRONG! YES IT DOES!

This incident involves THREE members of railway staff, the driver, the guard and the platform dispatcher, ergo three pairs of eyes. With driver only trains becoming the preferred method of operation for Train Operating Companies (TOCs) to operate their services the number of eyes is reduced from SIX to just TWO.
Remember "DOO is safe"
