Is It FMA? | Blending BJJ with FMA...What Could Possibly go Wrong?
✔️FMA is fun.
✔️Grappling is fun.
✔️Jiu-jitsu is fun.
💢Knife Grappling through the lens of an FMA'r but using Jiu-jitsu as a training platform, now that's a good time! Give it a try.
Observations |
💢 Tool fixation - the "fight" and priority switches to the tool when it is introduced into the scenario. It becomes a scramble to obtain, retain, control, deny use, and use it.
💢 Adding striking into the mix changes things for both parties.
💢 Retention of the tool during the Transitions of Positional Dominance is difficult and risky.
Scenario Training Questions |
💢 What is the context of this scenario?
💢 Who is the "bad" or "good" guy?
💢 What is the moral/legal authority and justification for introducing a tool into the scenario.
💢 What-if you are the "good" guy in the scenario and you have the tool? How can you articulate that the situation justified you using it?
💢 One must consider what the definition of a "lethal force encounter" for their state.
The cool guy punchy-kicky-smashy-slashy-stabby-stuff is fun and all, but we also must keep in mind the context of "why" we are training this stuff. Thus, the "Why" we fight.
❤️Thank you, @holdfastgrappling, for letting us use the space for our shenanigans.
