I'm UK based and I just got a 2021 'Appetite Amber' lefty from Thomann in Germany. I'd ordered November Burst and was going to return it, BUT......The AAA flamed top is amazing, the feel and playability is too, so I'm going to keep it. There were quality control issues, but apparently there always are. There was glue and lacquer overspray on the underside binding of the neck for about 2.5 inches and the same on the nut together with glue residue at the nut across the whole width of it. I contacted a different Gibson dealer from where I bought it to ask them about the QC issues and they told me that 'If you want a perfect Gibson, buy a PRS 'cos almost every Gibson has issues.' That surprised me a lot as this cost £2599 and I expected better from Gibson, but hey, I love the guitar so I'll have to put up with the niggles.

I just watched the video again. I noticed the bridge is a Non Wire ABR-1 bridge. Turn the saddle of the G string around, so that it is more centered in the middle of the bridge. The buzz is coming from the saddle intonation adjustment screw not having enough pressure to hold it in its slot. Since it is a Non Wire bridge, the tension from the string holds the saddle down. Because the G string saddle is so far back, there is not enough pressure holding it down. Try to remember where the G string saddle has the string seated. Try to put the string slot back in the same location it was, so you don't alter the intonation. Just spin the saddle around, and adjust it back to where it was.

Gibson has been hard at work for many years now to exactly replicate the sound that was made from a cheap replica guitar that was trying to replicate a Gibson... 🤔 So if someone would have given them that guitar before the band recorded with it. Gibson would have said that it wasn’t made from the same premium materials. Blah blah blah. Also something about their quality of pickups. Blah blah. (which B.T.W. are late 70’s early early 80’s alnico 2 Pro Seymour Duncan’s) and of course that the electronics being used were inferior to their current products on sale. And of course that it didn’t sound as good as one of their own true blue LesPauls. 😂 But then now today we pay more for that inferior guitar sound....so....yeah. It just further proves that actually nothing is worth anything significant until everyone wants it. Then it becomes “valuable.”

If a string sounds buzzy but no other string does, AND if the string sounds buzzy about the same way on several frets, I've found that in 9/10 cases it's just a bad string. I think what happens is a string will crack lengthwise and just as you can tell a wooden baseball bat is cracked you bang it on the ground it sounds buzzy.. the two strands of the string buzz against each other., when the only thing that stops it is just changing the string. If a fret is high you'll likely hear it on more than one string and if it's the nut you will only hear it played open.

You see I understand about the TV, the phone etc etc but when I buy American made guitars priced at over fifteen hundred dollars that I've saved up for,I don't want the case made in China cause that's what I'm trying to avoid buying American made. I understand that in every day life it's impossible to get away from made in China products but in my hobby that I spend tens of thousands of dollars on I avoid that crap and honestly fender/Gibson cases being made in China is bullshit.

Roughly 20 yrs ago I bought a flood damaged wine std husk. Using spare parts I put it together. It was ghastly but great. Eventually had it refinished to match the wine burst customs I'd seen in Gibson posters. Turned out amazing, & prob still in the tri-state area Trogly. When I start to wish I still had every guitar I've let go, I look at Trogly's content (check out his old content if you haven't already). Austin you've had some beauties brother. I have no doubt you'll prob bag an Aldo Nova, McCarty LPs, and even that damn North Star (assuming George didn't make it up.)

Chances are, there are a couple of listeners to this channel remembering when $300 was the retail price for a guitar like this during the '60s or '70s. Those were the days when they looked great but were meant purely to be utilitarian. The Gibson name was not pumped up like it was by the time I started learning to play in the '90s.

@@ericbgordon1575 , I found you comment very interesting, so I went and did some research. U.S. Inflation Rate, $300 from 1960 to 2020 The U.S. dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 3.67% per year during this period, meaning the real value of a dollar decreased. In other words, $300 in 1960 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $2,614.57 in 2020, a difference of $2,314.57 over 60 years. Crazy, isn't it?

Here's what the slash standard strikes me as. A budget guitar with probably a $500 license payment or something to slash. Budget is relative, but it's not slash's guitar. The custom guitar has duncan alnico II pro pickups in it (which I don't like, but slash does). Gibson got stingy and decided that they would make their own imitations for slash's standard offering (which is more like a franklin mint replica at this point because it's becoming nothing like what slash uses). How do you offer a guitar for $3000, claim that your own pickups should retail for $175 each (maybe more) and then turn around and tell people that you don't want to put a set of duncan pickups that retail as a PAIR for what you try to retail one of your own pickups for - anyway, how do you take those facts together and tell people "hey bro, you have to go up to the custom level to actually get one with the pair of pickups that retail for half of what we try to retail ours for. At 3 grand retail, we can't put duncan pickups in a guitar when they're in $800 korean guitar. It's just unaffordable". None of that makes sense, except to say, it doesn't appear you're getting what you're paying for when you buy a gibson. Also, why worry about selling chinese made cases now? Parts of the pickups used in the custom shop guitars are from china, so why worry. They have a lot of debt to pay - we're being farmed along the way (I've owned 15 gibsons, and still have two, lest I be harpooned as being one of those folks who plays cheap guitars and doesn't ever buy gibsons). if you're going to spend 3 grand and you want a quality guitar, what do you do? buy a used collings. At least it sounds like the tailpiece is aluminum, but that's not too much of a boast, either - it's on pretty much every tokai that costs more than $1000.

This fret buzzing is totaly unacceptable. When you try a Gibson at the store, take your time. Bring a fret rocker and check all frets. Make sure that the nut is at the right height and that there is no fret buzing. Check how straight the neck is. Try the guitar with clean sound. Fret buzing can be masked with a lot of distortion. If the fret buzing is due to the fact that the bridge is so low that the strings are almost touching the frets, then raise the bridge just a little. If problem persits, tell the seller to send the guitar back to Gibson. But it's after that, that scares me,,,is Gibson realy gonna do sometning with the guitar or are they simply gonna ship it to a different store ???

The mark by the control cavity: it looks like the color coat didn't take and they clear coated over it...That one should be "B" stock, with that, the switch cavity boo boo and the half assed set-up. I think it's either the fret leveling is off (with a plek?) or, most likely, the bridge slot is too deep for the gage string on it. For an EXTRA $500, not cool. No comment on the new cases...

Also noticed the handle location is different. The old cases seem to use the handle's screws to secure the interior compartment, but the Chinese model uses separate screws. If they are making them cheaper, not sure why they would use more hardware.
