I own this too and I find that it holds about 70% - 90% of the speed coming into the home which is more than enough. Like you, I find it very very stable and really easy to manage. Amazon does sell a 2 router set rather than router point if you want to buy that and take advantage of that setup which is faster, but I too have 24 devices connected and find that they all have stability which is really needed for the smart home items which use 2.4 Ghz. I dont game so the difference between 250 Mbps and 190 Mbps is something I cannot notice so its fine. The disappointment from Google is 2-fold, first you need to use two apps to manage the system (Google Home and Google Wifi) and second, Google did not make this wifi 6 ready. But it does have WPA3 Encryption which virtually no other mesh has (although I am sure a couple do by now),

@@a.d.c7941 forgive me if i do not answer this. I have not previously owned the original google wifi 3 pack so I couldnt give you an honest answer. Everyone's experience can be somewhat different and so the only thing I can suggest is check out YT vids, and do some research on Google. I do not even see the old system on the Google store so doing an apples to apples comparison of the techs is not possible. I will say this, with the 2 pack I have, and the 26 smart products connected to the wifi, 24 are connecting to the router vs 2 to the point. Even some of my lights which are just a couple of feet away from the point are connected to the router which is about 30 feet away so the router is excellent. In fact I own the Nest Hello and its 65 feet away from the router and getting a really solid signal ie about 80% of my maximum 250 mbps plan. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely have gone with the 2 router package since Google is practically giving away Google minis these days and the strength and reliability of the router is terrific. Sorry for not answering ur question directly but hopefully you find something useful from my response. If you have specific questions about the Nest Wifi I will be happy to answer. Cheers.

Dude, how do you do a short review on a new WiFi mesh router and only connect to 2.4ghz band which gave u slow ass speeds... connect to 5ghz band and run a speed test, this review pointless..
@semozaki23
4 жыл бұрын
True ! but as you want I think it is very slow because I think 2.4 GHz is from 400 mbps to 600 (depending on the wifi chip) but you should have done a Review of 5ghz Since almost all devices come with 5ghz support

Good spot! That speed for 2.4ghz on a Google Newt point is actually pretty good! If he was on 5GHZ he would probably be getting 500 plus.

Great review! Weirdly, I had the SAME speed issues! I don't know how the terrible speeds are tolerated by other reviewers.. it's about a fourth of the speed I should be getting and range isn't great either. I have to add a Point to get same coverage as just my years-old Asus 1900ac router. Pretty disappointed in Google..gonna return the Nest.

I'll stick to an older router set up as an access point. Currently running a Netgear R7800 under a Netgear x10 R9000. Not sure I set up wifi for the best but everything has good and fast connections. Looking at a 10 gb switch to add devices along with the 10 gb in my NAS for Christmas...

I wanted to purchase this to get rid of the annoying rental fees for wifi routers from Comcast but I have the gigabit plan there's no way I'm settling for under 100mbps down when I'm paying for 1,000. My wifi speeds never actually hit 1,000 but pretty close 600-800
@pilinke11

You can purchase a used modem through eBay or Facebook Market place just make sure it is compatible with your service that way avoid paying rental fees, then set that as modem only and get a good gigabyte router and connect the router to the new modem

Better coverage which could be better speeds but it will not boost your isp speeds, it is limited to your provider if you contract 100mb speed you will not get 200mb by using this

You don't really understand the meaning of such mesh systems.... Try that speedtest with your gaming router placed in the basement, you will get shitty results, you've put the router point in the freaking basement.... you always put the router wherever you want to have a wired connection for example next to your pc. I would love to see the results from your gaming router placed in your basement, I bet the connection, stability and speeds cut in half if not more compared to a mesh system which trade in speed for stability and coverage.

why dose the nest router say 850+ down and speed test say 88mbps?
@mini2flyerau

Nest says 850 because that is testing the connection from the ISP. Speedtest on his phone is testing the connection from ISP>Router>Point>Phone. So it is slower.

Personally, I think mesh wi-fi systems are not worth getting yet. The only way mesh systems will be worth getting is if you do not have to plug them into another router or modem to get connected to the internet. Considering how long mesh wi-fi systems have been around for a few years now I would have thought some company would have sorted this out by now.
@jonathanjamison9733

You need to look into mesh systems lol you don't plug anything into another router 😆 you just plug the point into an outlet somewhere else in your home.
@michaelboys2602
4 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Jamison you are wrong. With a mesh wi-fi system you need to plug the main router into a modem to connect to the internet. You cannot just plug a phone line into the main router in a mesh system because they do not have modems built into them. I think the netgear orbi does but that is one of the only ones.

All those people here are either blind or plain stupid.... google router plugs into a modem from your isp, AND THATS IT, the access points simply plug in for power and you are done.
