I’m sure the U.S see’s Canada as “minnows” but if you knew the rostered players Americans would see that Canada is not only on par with them but likely have a much better team at the moment and for at least the next few years. What’s even crazier is if you followed Canada qualification matches the past 25 years you would know Canada has never had a team able get forward so easily, I watched some of the old qualifiers at the Azteca, and Canada didn’t even get passed half let alone score on a team like Mexico multiple times. I understand the Mexican team is not what it was and the U.S also but they need to recognize Canada has legitimate players that seem to be just getting warmed -up

What are the benefits to US FANs from Gregg Berhalter staying on as USMNT coach? It's like this, you know how to win because winning is a natural thing to you, but others can benefit from our tough mentality US coaches, not us? The USSF is not managing a situation GENIOUSLY, it is creating more opportunities for Failure to last longer. I seriously doubt Gregg Berhalter knows what happened against Columbia or Panama. For the USSF to act like Gregg is a part of some genius plan for 2026, they're taking a huge risk which is guaranteed to cost the USMNT more regression. The US team also showed they made a mistake not having US players from their own MLS league when Canada have 14 MLS players representing North America in the Copa better than the USA choke artists and from what I can see are a way more skilled better play making team than USA who are full of euro league bench warmer mascots that went soft playing with no balls or Swagger for team USA like the past teams have.

Here’s a technical breakdown to hire Marsch, US soccer chooses players on speed and physicality, not technical ability; using this logic our players are better suited playing a high press and/or counterattacking style because using our speed/physicality we can maximize our strengths in transition in the counter attack and in transition where one pass can lead to a dangerous situation. Berhalter on the other hand is trying to play a possession based system, so if you take my assumption of the players we pick, our speed and athleticism is a weakness when trying to play out of the back.

The U.S. lacked technical mid-fielders to link up the offensive attack. When you can't pass your way out of the back, its time change.

Also our midfield is above average in world football. Its more defensive though which isn't a horrible thing, but we need someone like gio or even LDT/Cardoso central who can make a pass.

I agree to some extent on the high press thing. What you lack in experience you make up for in speed and athleticism. But I don't think our midfield is that bad. Our midfield has been stronger than most, e.g. England in the WC. In Copa Amer what I saw was young guys who don't know how to play S Amer ball. If you hold the ball for any length of time you will get taken out. You only dribble at the opponents penalty box because they can't foul you there. Otherwise it should be fast passing through the middle when things line up. Every time our guys decided to dribble to progress the ball all the space was shut down immediately because conmebol is great at that. It has always been that way.

I must admit I was really disappointed at his views. As a Canadian, I always cheer for the USA if Canada is not involved. I take vacations in the states and go to Buffalo for day trips. But his comments just put a damper on any future plans, only because this is what Americans think of Canadians.

I really think Canada will continue to improve and give both Mexico and USMNT a hard time in Concacaf competition. USMNT and Mexico were grouped in this tournament. Canada made it to semifinals falling short to the world champions. Well done Canada. Keep expanding your talent pool and see you at the World Cup 2026.

I really like J Marsh but NO WAY would he have been the right person to coach the national team. It doesn’t matter who they bring in next, our players have to step up. Behalter didn’t lose this tournament, Tim Weah did.

Thank you, Alexi Lalas, for revealing your distasteful jealousy. I'm probably sure the entire USMNT are feeling this way simply because Canada is exactly where the USMNT wanted to be--in the Copa America semi final. And Jesse Marsch is bringing the best of out of the CNMT. The scary thing is that they will only get better, and will challenge the USMNT and Mexico in CONCACAF. This Copa America tournament has prove beyond all doubt that Canada can play with the very best, and the experiences they have gained will prove very valuable, and eventually will bear fruit. VAMOS CANADA!!! LET'S GO!!!

Contrary to what Lalas says, Jesse Marsch would have been a great hire for the US. If the US is going to compete at the highest level they need to think differently and play differently and Jesse brings that as a coach.

Can be flippant of Canada all you want, as a neutral the best player from North America isn’t from the US. It’s Alphonso Davies, you’ve all been talking Pulisic up for years. Davies younger and already a far better player and achieved far more

This isn’t just about Marsch, ever since Canada won the WCQ, Canada has been trending over the US. This Copa result is just part of this trajectory. Come 2026, expect Canada to be the top host nation. And you can’t say “we didn’t see it coming”. Also Soccer is taken a lot more seriously in Canada. We ain’t got NASCAR or any other fringe sport to compete with.

Canada is the US's biggest rival so this really hurts. Canada is the one country in Copa America that cares less about soccer than the US. At least all of the other South American countries put their best athletes in soccer and they live and breath soccer. Canada has bad weather in the winter, their best athletes are playing hockey and they somehow come up with a good soccer team even though it is impossible to play in much of Canada in the winter. There are not many Canadian fans of the soccer team because the other team's fans at Copa America have outnumbered Canadian fans for every game. It is more painful because the USMNT did so bad in Copa America. At least Mexico was equally inept at Copa America.
