Let’s not waste how good this defense is and go get Herbert a weapon
@LaoiseDeBhruin

This offense always needed a healthy oline with a very good run game for it to function well with alot of new weapons. Harbaugh wanted a physical team but when they have gone against 2 really good defensive lines the last 2 weeks they couldn't rely on the run game. When Mahomes was struggling on Sunday they could run the ball with a backup RB Hunt in the second half. Think thats the bigger disappointment rather than the vanilla passing game. Saw a ranking that had the Chargers OG's as the worst pass blocking group in the league and by a lot. Can't have your injured QB taking 10 hits in a game. Still can't believe they decided on Tomilson as TE3 and Matlock as their FB after doing the whole McFadden thing all camp. Never expected a Harbaugh offense to be so sloppy either with penalties.They can't have on average 10.9 yards to go on 2nd down when they lack outside weapons and a good 3rd & long down passing game. They need a total recalibration during this bye.

Before the game, you take a look at where we’re at and what we expect. I expected to lose 30-3, unless KC yanked their starters and we got all the funny bounces. Mostly because we had a lot of guys playing injured, over and above the obvious ones out. We got the bounces. But besides that we still overperformed what I expected. Key points - Salyer looked okay. Aside from handling stunts he was solidly mediocre. If we’re going to get Alt back after the bye, our LT should be okay. (Don’t expect Slater anytime soon.) Rest of the OLine kind of sucked but they’re out of position, it’s okay. We always have trouble with stunts, btw, it’s okay - they just need time together playing in position. The rest of the team was actually okay. Taylor and James out, Kristian bum knee, couple backups in but d backfield was serviceable. Pass pressure wasn’t great but wasn’t putrid. Herby frankly looked awesome, given the conditions. Honestly, I caught flack for saying we had no chance pre-game. From what I saw, we’re in better shape than I expected going forward - and I’m NOT a Pollyanna. ps - Steve having to explain Herbert’s not the problem is frankly just embarrassing.

I don't get the sentiment that Minter would leave after one year? Great defensive coordinators don't always get head coaching offers. History has shown that they often fail at the head coaching position, look at Spags record.
@guiltyascharged7752

Spags was an utter disaster as a head coach in two different stints. That is why he has stayed in KC for so long. The league is chasing the Baltimore style defense that Minter runs right now and he's turned the Chargers into one of the best defenses in the league while having mostly the same roster of players from last year. So he will get interviews if this keeps up.

Roman just needs to copy Ben Johnson’s playbook from the Seahawks game on Monday. They said something like 93% of yards on offense came from the run game (runs + play action). I remember they had two straight runs, picked up the first down at the Seahawks 30, then went to the TE screen and Laporta took it to inside the 5. Now the lions do have an insane run game with their backfield, but if we wanna be the team that establishes the run, copy the Lions.

Just because he had his worst year for TDs and completion percentage doesn’t mean he was bad. Even in his ‘worst’ year, he was still among the league’s best in Wins Over Replacement (WOR) and other key stats. And I’m not even entertaining the idea that a team’s record is solely tied to the QB-it’s a team sport. The real issues last year were that the team fell apart, and he played through one injury while missing multiple games due to another, both of which impacted his numbers. Despite that, he still had arguably his best game against the Vikings. This season, he’s in a scheme that doesn’t prioritize passing, but when he does, his efficiency and productivity are elite. Blaming the best player on the team is pointless. Let’s focus on the actual problems, not Herbert. Also, we’re 2-2. Why the negativity? We’re doing well considering how thin our roster is.

It's time to get rid of Herbert. It's been 5 years and he has done nothing but put up some neat regular season numbers and choke in the one playoff game and in big games. Get rid of that massive and absurd contract he has, get someone like Darnold, Baker or someone cheap like that and use the rest of the money to build out the rest of the team. Thats a winning combination, not Herbert eating up 70% of the cap and doing nothing.
