What's interesting to me is that social rules/norms seem to be very important to Koreans to be considerate of each other, but as much as I know and have experienced, some of such rules/norms are not so considerate of others. One example which seems quite common and I heard from others and I have experienced myself is that quite often you meet someone on streets and they are so nice to you and act as if they want to be friends and maybe add you on social media platform and once you are gone, they will just ignore your interactions online - basically it seems common to give false hope/expressions. Another common thing is to judge/treat people differently based on their looks and age. And I think that there is a lot of social pressure to study and work like crazy as if they live to study and work and not work and study to live. Good thing about Korea at least in my opinion is that it has many more positives than negatives :) I personally really love most parts of their culture, food, language, architecture, landscapes, music, cleanliness, many nice people and so on... :)

So how do you know if they really like you?
@wisecherry
Жыл бұрын
@@jennifervaughn1541 To be honest, only time can tell. But if they want to meet up after you first met them and they will actually contact you again and show up to your second meeting, then there is chance. But still if you are a foreigner, then they may meet you during your stay in Korea, but later ghost you when you go back to your home country. I guess for some people such things can be good they want to have fun just temporary and are not looking for a long term friendship. :) Of course people are different everywhere and there can be more trustable people too in that sense, but just in my experience for example in Korea and Japan such things are quite common, that people may show as if they are interested in you (just to avoid any kind of conflict and to save their face at that moment), but once you leave, you may never hear from them again even if they showed clear signs before as if they would want to stay in touch. So I guess all you need to do is to keep trying and hope for the best :) Good luck!

I definitely feel like life in Korea has been very romanticised since Kpop, drama's has been populized obviously there is the beauty of culture and pride in Korea which is just beautiful to see but there also the bad sides that shouldn't go unnoticed tbh like how its pay rate for women is one of the lowest In the world, hegemony, racism and rules towards foreigners, spy cameras, school life for children, bullying ect but I guess it's a country thats a hidden gem and lots of opportunities defo need a strong mindset!

No doubt Korea is a great country, Someone mentioned a question that had been bothering me concerning Korean lifestyle these while and is that "why do Koreans 'mostly' blame themselves over anythings that happen,?" Must there be someone to hold responsible for any occurrence? I'm asking this,cause I've dealt with some people from Korea, whenever there's a mistake somewhere, they put the blame on themselves, I know them to be responsible human beings. I wish things can change in that aspect. Any other thing is perfect with them🥰

This interview was kinda bland. The sample is too low to take it seriously. And the people seem well of, so obviously they're gonna consider their country and situation good. And asians tend to care a lot about the collective so they seem like forced to answer in comformity with the group and not bash their own country. I wanna see less people that only care about shopping on malls, buying skin care routines and going in holydays every year to Europe. Want I wanna see is the people who are struggling in South Korean society, who are barely getting by with their wages or are living in abyect poverty. Every person in this video seemed just middle to upper middle class. Ask the same question to poor people so we can have a more balanced sample.

3:15 "Koreans value good manners" ...really? Except for waiting for people to get off the subway before getting on (?). Saying sorry when you bump into someone (?) Saying thank you to the barista or cashier (?) Holding the door open for others, especially older people (?) Not cutting off people on the street (?) Not riding bikes and motorbikes on sidewalks (?) .. what manners? REALLY I wonder! I think they will say only speaking with honorific language to elderly.

Other than waiting for people to get off the subway, I think the rest are just different cultural norms rather than "manners". For example, in Korea it's incredibly rude and disgusting to blow your nose in front of someone (supposedly more offensive than farting). And saying thank you to a barista, lol really? Unless one is overly friendly, I've rarely seen that as common mannerism in US/Canada or even in Japan. But I agree his comment seems a bit too egocentric.

I am surprised by the answers in this video, the country with the highest suicide rate in the world, the country which ranked very low in the list of "the happiest people on earth", the country with the lowest birth rate, the country with the highest household dept, the country with the highest rate in elderly proverty among the OECD countries certainly cannot be a good country to live in. The work-life balance is not good. They mention on how fast the delivery is in Korea but delivery companies' workers are working 17 hours a day and they dont get paid enough. Also the cost of living is huge, you can work all of your life and never get to buy a house in Seoul or near Seoul. The education system is vicious. The social issues are rising. Life is not about fast wifi, fast delivery or if you like the food.
