I just received my XPEAK bikes and will be putting them together today. I've watched Tito for a couple years now mainly about RV's. Tito is amazing, very practical and really smart. I love that it never seems like you're in school it's just a conversation. I've learned quite a bit from his videos. When I saw he did a video on the XPEAK I was really surprised especially since I had already ordered them after extensive research. Have fun with your bike and thanks again to Tito and his wife for the great video.

Great review! We have XP version one and Step through version 2 and we often bring our batteries down to one square. Our batteries have been around for a while and still give us 20 to 25 miles and we too are in a very hilly community. As many reviews as I have seen on Lectric bikes, yours is the first to take a Lectric down to one bar. Getting down to one bar makes you more creative in how you ride :) Thanks for all your videos.

Thanks! Normally we don't draw the battery down that far on our typical 5-15 mile rides. So I'm glad I was able to push it this time. It made for a good test. I definitely had to get creative towards the end, but now I know how this bike rides without a motor :) Thanks for the comment.

@@RVwithTito LOL! I've been hung up twice pushing the bike to make it home when accidentally hitting the throttle and having the bike shut off on me. Turning it off and then back on resets it but it's always on a hill in an awkward situation. I believe the safety shut off is to help save the battery so I'm not complaining (much) 🙂

Don’t buy this step thru bike it has a death wobble that lectric won’t fix. We just bought two a step thru and a standard peak we love them the first ten miles. Then we put a 10 lb back pack on the rear 60 lb rated rear rack that comes stock with the bike. At 12mph the bikes front end shook back and forth violently. It only stopped when I took the back pack off the bike. When contacting the manufacturer they acted stupid to the issue. They said we should take off all accessories and try three different things and hope for the best. If that doesn’t work they will pay 60$ for a shop to repair it. Most bike shops I called won’t even look at it for 60$. They kept asking me why won’t the manufacturer fix a new bike or cover all repairs for the fix. They asked me why is their design your problem. We bought the bike so we could haul grandkids or groceries or just item on the rear of the bikes. Looking on line I have found that this is a common problem with the step thru. I wish I would have found this prior to purchase I would not have bought this bike. We bought these as a matching pair and love the bikes otherwise we are just disappointed that lectric knows of this problem yet won’t fix the design problem or pay to have it fixed. Don’t buy the step thru

Thanks for sharing this. I've read a lot from folks having this issue, though we have not. It's probably because we don't use any of the LECTRIC cargo baskets. We do use a TOPEAK cargo bag on our XPeaks (Step Through too) but don't have anything heavy in there.

Very informative review. I pre-ordered my high step XPeak a month ago, without reading this review. Now having seen the review, I am more comfortable with my purchses. This will be my first EBike and I wasn't so much concerned about having a mountain bike, but at 6'2" with some body weight :) , I preferred the higher stance that was shown. Most of my riding will be short distance on paved (although bumpy roads). Also in this area, south eastern Virginia, is very flat, our highest elevation is a speed bump on the road. I took advantage of the cargo rack and accessory package as I plan on using it for errands, as well as the larger seat , mirrors and a phone holder, which put me at ~ $1,500 US . I now really can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks again for the review. Edit: I received the unit 2 days aof. Packaging was perfect, no dings or anything dented broken. I have only tested on my driveway due to weather and that I have not ridden a bike 25 years. All seemed to work. Looking forward to more time with it.

Nice ebike and thorough review. One caution for mail order bikes is many bike shops will not service them or those that will service them charge a surcharge. So for someone like yourself with advanced dyi skills, likely not a problem, but for those who are unable to service and repair bikes, it could be a problem. Personally I prefer to support local bike shops, even though I have the bike repair skills and tools.

Yes, I agree with you that it's great to support local bike shops as long as they are friendly and accommodating. I know they've all taken a big hit as a result of direct-to-customer bike sales. Lots of folks I've heard from have had mixed experiences when taking their eBike in for service or tune-up. They often get attitude and push-back saying that the eBike they bought online is junk and they should have bought from them (for much more). Of course, I like to promote DIY :)

Excellent review with a lot of valuable info. Thanks I have a 1up bike rack that does not require a crossbar, that is why I purchased it, since all my bikes are step thru. 1up is one of the few that latches over your tires. I took a step Thru bike 1,500 miles with my 1up bike rack, about 1/2 way across the US and had no problem. Have also driven across South Dakota and Montana to Idaho and back with my 1up again no problem. 1up makes a very good bicycle rack, not cheap at about $700 for the one that handles 2 heavier bikes.

I enjoyed the video. I found it educational which is what I’m looking for. I rode an e-Bike for the first time earlier today and Lectric is one of the brands I’m considering. I’m debating on buying the step through or the high step model. The folding bikes don’t appeal to me as I think they look dumb and the seat looks too low. The other thing I don’t like about the folding bikes is I would think all of the extra hardware would weigh more and it creates another maintenance point.

Tito, Great Job as always! Since this is the first video I’ve heard you sing on, let’s give this bike an A for fun factor. And loved your singing! Cycling just brings out the child and joy in us. Haha😂 A few facts bike enthusiasts want to know about any bike they buy. What is the frame made of… steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, or a mix of each. Are the components, like shifters and brakes made by any particular brand or are they a generic brand? How much does it weigh, with and without the battery? Lastly, take close up shots of the welds on the bike frame. The quality of the welds are a good indication of how well the frame will hold up over time. Where to go if the bike needs repairs? Is there a warranty? How about options like a basket for carrying stuff, fenders? Just some of my suggestions, but overall you did a great job. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👊🏼

Nice video and review. Looks like you somewhere in Western Washington. I just left the Kitsap Peninsula a couple weeks ago to go South. I have a XP2.0 and I put about 2500 miles on it so far. The things I would like to see is a rear suspension. I have the comfort seat with the suspension seat post, but I still have issues with the bad roads. Also I would like to see faster gears in the xp2.0. When you get to about 17 mph it feels like my legs will come out of my hip sockets and fly off. 😂 Last winter I spent in Deming, NM and got over 70 miles out of one charge. In Western Washington it’s about 25 miles with a lot of pedaling. I seem to use PAS 2 when I need help. I definitely like the key location a lot better.

I am somewhat sorry to see that you can switch between class two and class 3 ratings on e-bikes now. This is because most cities have banned class 3 on their bike paths. He bikes already have a terrible reputation among pedestrians and conventional bicycles alike and although I like to ride faster than 19.6 miles an hour I can see the wisdom of slowing down e-bikes used in town. I believe someday there will be prominent markings on the bikes and lists of those bikes that are banned from bike paths and even off-road trails. Until I saw your video I actually thought class 3 were no longer imported into the United States as turnkey electric bikes. I learn something everyday. Thanks for the video Brian.

Glad you enjoyed the video. In most situations we ride under 20 mph, but it's nice to have the option to go faster to try and keep up with traffic. They used to have a class 2 sticker on some older models, but lots of folks just re-program them anyway. When doing a review, they want to know "what is the max speed?" Funny thing is that in most cases when we've had bikes screaming by on a trail or bike path, they were not e-bikes.

thanks for video. Actually just ordered XPeak step thru. I am aware some have experienced wobble, but seems like the fix is swapping in a Cane Creek headset. I just noticed that on your bike ( assuming it was a pre production version) it has a Cane Creek headset. would it be possible to tell me what model # headset you have? my understanding is that the Hellbender 70 ( full assembly) is the fix. but have found some people are using the Hellbender 70 VISCO ( only top or bottom, as the dampening is too much if on top and bottom at same time) and in that case use the cane creek "40" for the second part of the headset as it can be also purchased as top or bottom.

I haven't felt a wobble on mine. If you spin the front wheel off the ground, does it feel/look balanced and smooth? I also know they put Slime in the tires which might make them feel out of balance. 🤔

@@RVwithTito I’ve seen other comments on this “wobble” aka death wobble. I’ve never felt any type of bad wobble before on a bicycle of any type before but I’m aware that Honda’s Gold Wing had an issue years ago and it turned into a recall. It was in the steering stem bearings. I never had the wobble on my bike but as soon as I received the notice I took my bike right in for the fix. Hopefully Lectric will look into the problem. One of the comments mentioned it only happened only when he had some weight on the rear bracket. I’m missing the connection with that.

Thanks Brian! I have a high end (German) mid drive ebike worth much more than the XPeak MSRP. Remarkably the XPeak has some of the features of a high end ebike for much less. Well done Lectric! My only question is weight. It looks like a heavy bike.
@RVwithTito

Actually it's not as bulky as I thought it would be. The weight is 67lbs with battery (3lbs more than XP3) or 57lbs with the front wheel removed.

All eBikes are heavy. None I have tried were under 40 pounds or so even if incredibly expensive. Even the lightest battery and motor combination seems to add at least 20 pounds. My current ride, aYamaha powered eBike , is at least 65 pounds and I love it. Consider buying a Pedelec-style eBike. This would have no throtttlea and offer pedal assist only if you are looking for maximum range and are exercise oriented. The price of the Lectric shown here seems amazingly low for all the features offered.

Do you know if it’s a torque or cadence sensor? I have found many e-bike manufacturers are using torque. So if you were used to your e-bike cadence sensor there is a difference. We upgraded (to us) from Lectric XP 2.0 to an Aventon since we wanted a much slimmer e-bike. We rarely folded our Lectric so it wasn’t a must have for us. I do like the XPeak, looks very similar to our Aventon except for the fat tires.

@@arthurcutting9227 if the throttle doesn't exist on the bike, how would they say it has one? just take it off if it bothers you. it's not required to use the peddle assist or rest of the bike. if for some reason the wire is not easily removable, it can be cut and capped and if you decide to go back you can just put a plug on it so it is removable. and if the system complains about the open circuit (seems unlikely) , you can create a simple plugged end with a high ohm resistor that matches the throttle in its off state. those changes are simple and would take about the same amount of effort as putting a new chain on to create. once you do, the throttle would be plug and play. everyone is happy then.

@@RVwithTito their battery is likely a 13s4p battery with 3500mah cells. That would give the 14ah capacity. They could swing for 5000mah cells with the same exact quantity and size. That would increase capacity to 20ah. High capacity cells sacrifice high current draw performance though. And they are more expensive than standard cells. At 500 bucks, i'm sure lectric is making some good profit on their battery. I'm not sure i'd be willing to give them more than that for a 20ah battery that will struggle to provide 20amps when needed. I'd prefer to see 5p but that would likely not fit in the current battery dimensions. Not sure why they wouldn't maybe give themselves room to grow by making the entire down tube the battery via an oversized battery unit - just not filled with the default config.. 52v 20ah max but with defaults of 48v 15ah or so. Or at the very least, a provision for including a secondary external battery. That's not ideal for taking the bike on rough trails / jumps but people looking for max range are likely doing less 'active' activities that would benefit from not being so heavy. Parallel drawing is better than battery swapping because you are drawing less current from each battery and that actually increases the usable capacity from each battery. So i'm not a big fan of the idea of having to swap batteries.

The very small battery is a huge disappointment. Ideally you want to charge to 80% and discharge to no more than 20% to extend the life of the battery. With a small battery, you have very little optimal range. Moreover, the bike is powerful, pulling about 1300 watts which exacerbates the problem of a tiny battery. 1300 watts will drain that little battery very quickly and put a lot of stress on the cells. The range of this bike is a joke. So many better bikes with bigger batteries and/or full suspension in 2024. Do your homework.
