Great content as always, and I say that as a former Maine resident in the Portland area for 7 yrs (we relocated in 2014 for new job elsewhere in New England). Your observations are spot on. We loved the area, the people, the coastal beauty and beaches, the food, ... everything (except maybe the time to get to the Boston area, which was 2 hrs 20 mins on the Amtrak Downeaster). I am saddened, however, by what I have been seeing in news reporting and video coverage of the increasing homeless crisis, crime, import of immigrants, etc in the Portland area. Areas we once walked or visited for shopping (such as Trader Joe's) have been overtaken by tents, outdoor drug activity, etc. It's a disturbing and depressing scene. What has happened to Portland? I have my own view of the principal source for this situation, but I would be interested in your assessment and how you see the impact on quality of life in the Portland area. Those of us who might be considering moving back (or moving out) will be interested.

Thank you so much for the comment! I appreciate your kind words. Unfortunately the homelessness situation in Portland is definitely something that I've noticed increasing over the last 5 years. It saddens me as well, and I can only hope that real tangible solutions are brought before the city reaches a breaking point.

Democrats. It's really is that simple. Wherever you have Democrats in charge, especially in bigger towns and cities, you have the crime and homeless, corruption etc. So if you enjoy being overrun by crime and poverty, vote Democrat.

I've never been to Maine, and yet want to move there. The last few months, practically obsessively looking on Zillow. Couldn't find anything i liked in price range. Then i found the perfect place... But alas. Realistically 10 years out from a move. And worried I'll never find something so perfect at that time. Just dreaming in the meantime. Thanks for your videos.

Maine is NOT the most affordable state within New England. Rhode Island edges it out per the most recent 'Composite Cost of Living Index'(1). Further, you could argue that both Rhode Island and New Hampshire are 'more affordable' given that housing is less expensive in those states per the same report. It is going to be your greatest expense after all. If you're very wealthy, the coast can be a great choice. Portland used to be better but I think many would agree with me that the balance between economic opportunity, rapidly rising rents, and homelessness have made it much less so. 1) meric.mo.gov/data/cost-living-data-series

Maine is beautiful, but there really is nothing here for the young college or high school. That is if you are lucky and get a job in what you went to college for. NH is a better place, but then you have to travel to Mass for jobs unless there is one in NH. How, many companies pay good wages, with the option of stocks, retirement, and good health insurance. Does Maine have any companies like Microchip, Motorola, Intel, Twain Semi-Conductor, Google? These are few companies that pay workers with knowledge a good wage with the benefit of stocks, and excellent health insurance. I lived in Maine until 1982. Even then we wanted a better opportunity and it has been one of the best things we did. Not only the choice of colleges and universities or private colleges.

@@marywegrzyn506I know from experience that people who live there won't appreciate hoards of people moving there just so they can jack up prices. Other than that, yeah, the real estate business is corrupt. Didn't you learn anything in 2008?
