You can see pretty well in the footage that Toby is communicating with the cows. Whenever they seem to be unsure of him he will make it a habit to yawn and look away or take more distance. This way he signals to them that he is not up to something and he encurages them to be at ease. Must be in his blood ;)

Something you can do to make yourself more comfortable being around the cows is putting pool noodles on the very tips of their horns. My best friend’s family has a cow farm, and they buy a couple dozen pool noodles every summer and cut them into like 6” pieces, and melt one end so one end is like pinched closed? And then they carefully put them over the tips of their cow’s horns lol It’s mostly because they don’t want them accidentally gouging or scratching each other - but if they NEED to use their horns for defense, of course the tips will just pop through the ends with a little force. They tend to scratch buildings and vehicles and machines with the tips of their horns too lol you don’t have that issue, Morgan, but it’s still a good suggestion!

One day, when the cattle is truly used to you and handling, you could try and pool-noodle their horns if you don't feel comfortable or get a vibe that they might be a bit too careless around you. We have one scottish highland owner in our town who pool-noodles one of his cows because she's a bit of a gruff lady that likes to shove the rest of the cows around. So as a precaution she's been noodled :'D It quite funny to see when I cycle to work in the mornings.

@@Annie_Annie__ I would think Kong's are much better at lasting and less problematic at breakdown in the sun... When animals eat bits of foam it can cause real digestive problems.
