europe is in between america and russia - and both dont have that much interest in europe making itself independant, and re-industrializing itself. There is evidence like over 150 army bases in europe, that they will try to prevent us making ourselves independant - the greatest problem in my eye is the dependance on american intel - this has been the blind spot in europe since the cold war - and russias on the other. The only solution is to make europe a nation state, with its independant intel agncy, as counterpart to mi5, cia, mossad and fsb. Otherwise we are literally f-ed - for now, europe does not havy any own intelligence agencies - all these are defacto extensions of the above mentioned agencies. Especially the german intel service is just something that looks like an intel agency - but its just american command, seated in stuttgart. We have to make it smooth, because america (more than russia) will not want us to stand up. That is why they already created all these NAZI mk ultra paramilitary groups in eastern europe - because they already plan for that possibility, and will dump these nazi structures they built, on us. This can also be inferred from the fact that the USA keeps germany artificially inn a state of the Reich - i quote the Bundesverfassungs-Gericht: The west german state is not the successor, but the continuation of the reich... With the capitulation of the Wehrmacht, did the german reich not disappear. Any form of making europe independant, will be portrayed as a rise of fascism - or compared to such - even though it is the americans who recruited actual Nazis in ukraine, and have subverted any trust in good will. Americans have set up the german system and the EU, so that it keeps germany in this state... The british are geopolitically isolated enough to not really give a shit about europe as a continent, so i guess they will ally closer and closer with the USA, and will oppose the creation of a european nation state, european army and so on. Personally i would prefer an army/navy that is 2fold - one part militia which is voluntary and partly civilian, and a professional modern army, that can be used for hot conflicts in high risk areas, not just safari. For this a unification of systems is needed - every member state should have its own arms in its militia, but at the professional level it should be unified. The direct cooperation of militia and army will safeguard that there will not develop a military dictatorship. I am swiss, i am not a fan of everything in the EU - but if we can define an independant constitution for europe, i am all for a european state, and european army.. but i know that if europe does not get its act together, kicks the CIA-infested people out of their positions in state and commerce, media and security, then europe will be defacto destroyed. A process the americans and british started more than a centory ago by the way. Geopolitically, the UK and USA will develop into the worst enemy of europe, and they will sabotage any efforts for unification, probably violently. The unification of europe is non-different from the emancipation of germany - since it is the economic and academic powerhouse. Technically 54 states are still defacto in war with germany - since ww2. The germans dont want any expansion. That is good. But without the germans, europe will never be independant. Hence we need to safeguard germany from the american intel onslaught. That is 40% of the work. Americas foreign policy goals are clear - contain russia, germany and china. That is all that they do. Without germany, any european state, economic union or army, is failed. Yet they are a bit to strong for the rest, which resulted in a few wars in the last century, so this time we need to be smarter - we need a secular constitution, a real LAW OF THE LAND of europe based on natural law. Any european army, european state or economic union, is doomed as long as we dont have independant intelligence service. As long ours are simply an extension of the american services, we are not even in the game. Any uprising or emancipation in europe would be violently crushed by the people who pay our politic whores. We need to take the power back from these political prostitutes, and then remove the ideological subversion from politics, media and commerce. Then we need the independant intel, because otherwise we are blind. We need to reindustrialize sections of european mainland again, and protect our tech better from theft. We need to protect ourselves from american subversion and polarization, and ideally create a large neutral zone. Further to protect all neutral countries from the global superpowers, there should be a neutral security architecture, which should span from gibraltar to india. If you are between 2 powers you MUST become neutral, or you will be crushed. If you choose, you loose. We need to develop 4 things parallel - neutral zone security architecture (neutral states can defend other neutral states, but not in article 5 way - coups and subversion, as well as offensive wars are prohibited. Without article 5 and dependance on USA, europes security is halfway stable now). We also need a european federalistic state, which allows that the 20headed hydra europe can act coherently. This is our primary issue, that languages and wars have dismembered us. We need to put ourselves together again, and we have NO BOUNDARIES. We need this to protect our economics from the 3 superpowers. Then we also need independant intel service - which works with the different national services in europe, and is partner to the other 3 large powers. We cant be their bitch any longer, its getting too dumb. And fourth we need an european army, but without the intel service we cannot safeguard our political and economic interests in the new multipolar world. Without an army we cannot protect it. Without a state we cannot rule it (which per default makes america rule over us) and without a neutral zone there will never be peace. Never war again on european soil! We want to be partners with the USA, but as long as this kind of demented mongrels rule in the white house, europe must learn to safeguard its own interersts as america is distracted with Russia and China. That is the best way.

If Europe wants to be taken seriously, an EU army is essential. However, while I'm very much in favour an EU army, I'm very pessimistic about the prospect of it actually materialising. You'd have pretty much everyone allied against it, be it USA, Russia, China or even EU member states. Also, even in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, European states prefer to have their policies dictated by the USA rather than taking matters into their own hands. And as much as I hate to say it, I do have quite a bit of understanding for nations who oppose an EU army right now. A responsible head of state would not give up control of its armed forces to people like von der Leyen. An EU army will only be possible when the EU finally gets its act together politically. Yes, I would like a longer video that speaks about an integrated European army, how it's connected to an integrated defense policy, and that takes into account know-how of defense industries of all countries and how to integrate those (e.g. Sweden (jet fighters, combat vehicles), the Netherlands (Navy)) with the industries of the large countries to come to the best products (Airbus-like solution?), and how standardization leads to cost efficiency and a stronger army. At the same time it would be good to take into account the integration of defense policy policies of member nations, which through the development of standard materials enables real integration (e.g. German, French and Polish soldiers in one tank-batallion, or Dutch, Italian, and Spanish sailors on one navy ship).

Not so many people care about what Greece is doing except when there may be a border conflict or resource grabbing movements form both of these countries, such as the hydrocarbon resources in Aegean Sea or East Mediterranean. Turkish people has seen the friendship of Greek people in the earthquake and vice versa happened in the last earthquake at Greece. Peoplewise TR doesn't have any problem with the Greeks specifically. I think the EU army should be created. Not every EU country wants to join and that is fine, just start out with the countries that do. If just Germany and France would be a single military, with the same weapons systems it would already increase the capabalities we have. Later on, when seeing the way it goes, other countries might change their opinions and decide to join anyway. The Netherlands and Germany are more or less already starting this. All Dutch brigades are under German control. Only the Special Forces (and some smaller units) are still under Dutch control. The Netherlands and Belgian navy are also working extremely closely. As a German, I can already see a few problems. A European army would certainly be more cost-effective and could reduce overhangs and build up capabilities at European level. When it comes to language, I see fewer problems, English is generally taught throughout Europe and people close to the border can often communicate very well. The same applies to the military command structures, that already works quite well at the NATO level, so why not adopt it at the European level. I don't see any difficulties there. It gets difficult when it comes to building weapon systems or a regional specialization. I can hardly imagine that German tank builders, the German military industry, want to say that tanks etc. will soon come from Eastern Europe. The same goes for France when it comes to building an aircraft carrier. I can hardly imagine assigning this to Italy or Greece (even if this is all just hypothetical). Next as a German... Germany has the largest population and is surrounded by partner countries, most of it is landmass and one is bordering the North and Baltic Seas. How many tasks should Germany take on in a European army? The same question also applies to France, which has an even larger stretch of coast. What should the smaller states (Netherlands, Belgium, Malta, Balkan states) adopt? Is there parity? In order to have a European army, all states must have something of it. What did you want to offer France and Germany to make these efforts? I don't see that at the moment, the gap and interests are too far apart for that.

@@BBP-OMO Not really since western europe(131 million) combine has a way larger population then eastern europe(92 million). If we add ukraine to east and scandinavia to the western europe we get west(158 million) vs eastern europe (136 million). Then we got the mediteranian nations like spain, portugal, etc. Though in reality there are variations in europe like poland as a example where the split between their conservative ruling party won with 51% to the pro EU party of 49%. There are divisions within the EU itself. Though I would agree that if those eastern european conservatives took over the EU would be a shitty place to live in. Why shouldn't Italy with their experience in building aeroplanes be not involved in specialisation on air mobile or space units? Italy has the Aermacchi, now Leonardo MB 345,346, helicopters Augusta AW149, AW139, AW129. Aeroplanes having being part in the development of Tornado, Typhoon and being part of team Tempest? The Development of naval vessels, well Italy has its own capability and the development it shares both Horizon and FREMM with France. Missiles, Italy developed the Aster family together with France and it has developed the VEGA rocket to deploy satellites. It seems to me that it has the right qualifications to be involved in many areas. I did not mention OTO Melara family of guns nor the IVECO/BAe marines amphibious unit now used as well by the US Marines. Italy has its own development for its own armed forces. Perhaps the Germans should concentrate in developing/building tanks and terrestrial vehicles.

For example the Benelux with Germany and Denmark, Poland with the Baltics (and maybe Finland and Sweden?), France likely still seperate due to its military expeditions in Africa, Spain+Portugal+Italy+Greece (though I could see Greece going more with Bulgaria and Romania too), ... Ofcourse still have great cooperation between those regional forces and with the goal to eventually tie more and more of these regional blocs together. I just don't see a possibility of a full EU army without some steps inbetween.

Moreover, historians/pol scientists that have looked more closley at the EDC debate in France (e.g. Craig Parsons, "a certain idea of Europe") have concluded that a (realistically) different composition of the national assembly could have ratified it. So, calling it "impossible" is sort of a stretch.

Not only does the EU need a unified army, I would argue most individual European countries don't need an individual army and that the current patchwork of 27 armed forces is inefficient and ineffective. Why does Germany need an army, when it's surrounded by EU states, to defend against whom? Why does Poland need an army, when individual Polish army wouldn't be enough against its main threat Russia? Individual armies are an anachronism for most EU countries and for most of EU common unified army is the only army that makes sense and pooled defense spending would be significantly more efficient than 27 individual defense spendings.

We europeans have a lot on our plate, and countries (especially bigger ones) will not reliquish control over either tax collection nor defense... HOWEVER we cannot let the americans have the oversight and the last word on our collective defense, america and europe are drifting apart as the time go by,it is not the cold war anymore and the world isnt bipolar anymore...and our respective interests do not always align. Despite Europe being in NATO, this still is a US led military organization. Is it enough to defend Europe? Yes it is, but there is a catch. Europe will be secure, but in America's terms, which will not always 100% align with the interests of Europe. It's a logical outcome as Europe's foreign policy is largely fragmented. European militaries are small, and have little power projection capability in comparison to the US. Moreover the US has a far more robust and multilayered foreign policy, utilizing both soft and hard power when necessary. Also, the US is capable of rapid decision making, is more experienced, and has more resolve when under geopolitical pressure. What does all that mean? It means that the US has been babysitting us ever since World War 2, and its time we finally grow up.

Maybe make it so that each member state needs to set aside some territory for the common EU military force, to be operated and managed solely by them, kinda like an embassy. Then, place the EU military under a single leader (maybe the foreign affairs minister, maybe a new common defense minister). The minister has sole control over the operation of the military but may be checked by the Parliament, Council, or Commission. Their mandate is only defensive action such as repelling invasion from foreign enemies. They cannot operate within any country, excepting their bases within that country (aforementioned), which does not explicitly permit their operation (perhaps with a three-day-long grace period in order to account for emergencies). They cannot suppress internal rebellions or insurrections (domestic enemy defense) nor trans-national uprisings which consist partially of the citizens or residents of at least one EU member state without the explicit permission of the country which needs the defense. This is ignoring the possibility of one member state attacking another. Offensive action is also prohibited except when given explicit direction for the same by the Parliament, Council, and Commission, or for at-most-ninety-day-long operations which curtail immediate material dangers.

As an American you should understand more than any other else what united states can do. Imagine if Montana or Lousiana or New Mexico etc were not in the USA. United States of Europe or federal Europe will make the EU stronger and stronger .
@dirkgonthier101

There is that much discussion in the EU on every matter where there is discussion possible. (By the way, discussing is in our genes; our politicians are used to discussions among coalition-partners about policy choices and so finding a common ground or consensus.) If there isn't any discussion possible - for instance in a crisis or (hypotethical) if the USA chooses for isolationism and NATO gets disband (or get reduced to a hollow shell) - the member-states quickly fall in line and take decisions by which the EU constantly gains in importance. Without any discussions. But you need to follow EU-politics very closely before you realize that. And, as an American, you probably don't have any possibility to follow the politics of the EU from closeby. You'll need to go outside your official media to do that. It's a wrong assesment that the populations of the EU differ so much. But elections are won mostly on the domestic front, just like it always happens in the USA.

@@apb2081 As an American I also understand the costs better than most. It made sense for the States to form a loose union at the time. We were surrounded by hostile greater powers in the middle of their colonizing phase. It didn't help that their was a great large ideological gap between the US and the European powers. Their were more reasons but none of them really apply to most European countries right now.

I'm afraid we will only get an european army after the eu has suffered another major catastrophic conflict in one or more member states. The world is not a safe place, to leave the EU, which basically is a collection of the richest countries in the world, undefended, especially from other nato members, it both stupid and short sighted. We are going to have to pay a very large price for that lesson. And if it's up to Russia is going to be sooner than later.

The EU on the political and military front will change as the need arises, for now, they feel they don't need to change, unlike on the economic front, they saw a need to change many decades ago to compete better with the US after the second world war. Longer term, EU countries will come to the conclusion that they will have to speak more with a single voice in a lot more political, foreign policy and military areas if they want to protect their interest against the likes of the US and China, which are only going to get bigger and individual EU countries are too small to compete with them, so those countries getting bigger will likely push EU countries closer together to protect their political, economic and social interest, the alternative is that they get pushed aside. The rest is just foot dragging, trying to maintain more power at a country level but in the end, economics is what comes first and like it or not, EU countries need the EU, without it, you're basically pushovers for the US and China and that is only going to get worse until these countries wake up and band together in a lot more areas, after all, they have the economic muscle, the skills, the population to make it happen, they even have the advantage of the EU expanding, now they just need the political will to make it happen, either that or decline to wake them up. As for NATO, it's got its uses, but Europeans need to start looking after its own interest, not US interest, there is no technical reason why an EU military couldn't be part of NATO, on the one hand, the US would want that as an EU military would be far more useful than the individual countries, but on the other hand, the US could see it as a threat to its power base around the world, in any case, the US needs to wake up and see China as the real threat, not the EU and the EU and US should band together to protect western values, democracy and free speech, something that's been under threat the last decade.

Even if Trump wins, he will be a problem for 4 years. He cannot pull out of NATO because of restrictions from Senate and Congress European defence must prepare for that period. France and Britain can assist with their nuclear power. GET PEOPLE READY. BEST DEFENCE.

Great video ! Personally, I've been a fan of an EU Army for quite some time and I have typed real long comments under some videos on why it's a good idea. To sum it up : 1. We will be able to guarantee our own security, in case another Trump gets elected. 2. We are 450 million people, against 330 million Americans, and we enjoy similar wealth, yet our military capabilities are very insignificant due to the fact that we have 27 separated armies. One big Federal EU Army would solve this problem. We can afford it as well since we're in the top 3 of global GDP's. 3. We will be able to protect our own external borders, and we won't be threatened with migrants again from countries such as russia, belarus, Turkey, or other. 4. A European Army is better for NATO, since it'll be easier to coordinate the European and the American armies, instead of the American one and the French one and the Estonian one etc. 5. We can rival the US on military R&D, and thus create more jobs and innovation with the EU. With new factories we will also be able to reindustrialize our continent. 6. Creates a great European feeling among citizens. 7. We wouldn't be threatened anymore by countries such as Turkey which regularly threatens Greece to retake some islands. No country would dare to mess with the European Armed Forced. And yes I would like a longer and more detailed video about this topic ! Maybe I can even help you since I have a pretty detailed plan on how Europe can achieve an EU Army 😉
@dinospapa7413

While you make some good points, keep in mind that a paneuropean army would have to guard an absurdly long eastern border with russia and belarus, as well as dozens of aegean islands+cyprus. That won't be possible with the professional army organisation that most european countries have. Constituting mandatory conscription would be the only way to acquire the manpower necessary to guard the border (like how finland and greece are currently doing), but that would be highly unpopular among central and western european citizens.
@tim_d_jong
Жыл бұрын
@dinos papa the Netherlands said this week that it would like to bring back mandatory conscription. Also, I think that mandatory conscription would be far more popular than we think since I haven't heard many people saying it was a bad idea. If we want a strong Europe, we need to be able to protect all of our borders, and if the only way to achieve this is through mandatory conscription, so be it. Let's do this. I think that if you explain to the average European that by conscription we will be independent and strong, they'll probably want to do it voluntarily

Not to forget greece claims 10 mile airspace for their 6 mile maritime border despite the rejection of their claims by US and eu. But who cares, they can just harrass Turkey like they always do and when Turkey answers, greece can complain to eu. What a wonderful world.

Here is your first flaw. Greece can never have aircraft carriers because Turkey would never allow it and let’s not fool ourselves some European countries rely on Turkey for trade. That is just one example. Like it or not you have to rely on the US for the foreseeable future. And further more the United States is united because of cultural ties. Europe is too diverse and has too many cultural gaps to be truly united. All you need is one county to veto like Hungary. The US would love to see a European army that way they can focus more resources on the Pacific. They might have their differences but US and Europe have no danger of waging war on each other.

NATO strength overall is enough to protect EU . However their rather fanatical adherence to strict rules and lack of strategic and tactical flexibility is the risk area . Putin takes full advantage of that lack of flexibility . If Russia were to win the Ukraine war and park Nuclear missiles on the Polish and Belarus border NATO will wish they did more earlier and moved earlier to secure Western Ukraine to assist Ukraine to win . If it came down to it , It is far better for NATO members to fight Russia on Ukrainian soil than inside the EU . The mindset that you can ward off all external threats by just staying on and within your own borders is not always the best defensive plan . Sometimes the external threat has to be neutralized . Imagine how much better it would be for Ukraine and EU security if there was a NATO defensive line from Polish border along to Kyiv to Odessa along the Dnipro river . Russia only engaged if any Russian weapon tries to cross the NATO line . There is an argument for an EU Army instead of NATO but it could still suffer from the infighting and lack of cohesiveness that exists now between NATO members . What most annalists are missing is that a defeat of Russia in Ukraine is a defeat of China's master plan for quite some time . If Donald Trump becomes President again I think NATO will have more problems and infighting because he does not want to help Europe anymore . On the other hand it may be good for the proponents of the EU Army and help bring it to fruition .

An EU army is much too late! The relationship between some EU major members are awful up to the point, their citizens understand the trick! You only have to see the discussion who is going to lead the scaf program, who is making the USA military jet industry running…. More, look at what is happening about hydrogen and nuclear… and the lies between France and Germany…. You should make a video about EU energy… If the current situation is continuing, I mean EU countries only looking for their own interests and even more trying to force others to adopt their point of views without considering the interests of others countries, then, it is better to vote, sadly, for a nationalist party… and accept the EU dislocation as EU is finally only a large supermarket.

Your statement is wrong about the fact it was not possible to make an EU army before because of a fear of an armed Germany! Even if it could have been true in 1952 ( and we will understand this legitimate fear ), it was not in the 90s and even the 80s! France, by many times, asked for an EU army, while Germany, UK, and others refused. This EU army was dead at the second war of Irak…. Now, Germany is in favor for an EU army (because it is suddenly fearing of Russia) while it is buying for hundreds of millions F35, rather than using the EU military industry…. Hey Germans, I would be quite surprised, if for the next French President election, a non nationalist (centrist) president would come from the votes….

Get an army yes. Have every member nation include a protection clause in their constitutions against the military being used within European borders unless in defense against a hostile nation. Use the legions. The Spanish and French Legions are worthy of expansion and investment.
