Since many are going mirrorless, people are getting rid of their full frame stuff. I'm getting this setup for less than 300 bucks, and it's not third party. And it hasn't been used alot. Because when this setup was so expensive, few people bought it. Also, a new setup is much less than $1000. Thanks to the mirrorless market.

@@MassimosFotografie I'm glad it works for you. I just didn't want to take a chance on a third party product. I spent alot of money on my D850 in 2021, and don't want to replace it. It's only come down in price about $400.

Just bought a D 850,, a Nikon battery grip, EN EL 18 battery and all the other needed bits and bobs---all used and came away for under $1800. The battery grip came (unbeknownst to me) with one of the Wasabi batteries you mentioned. I thought, How nice. Now I've two EN EL18s. Except the camera didn't recognize the Wasabi. I tried charging it--it would charge. So, I'm not sure I can agree with your recommendation of blithely buying third party stuff. In my limited experience, I've found it better to go with the brand name and buy used for pennies on the dollar from a reputable dealer (KEH, B & H, etc.). BTW: I totally agree with you about what a complete rip off these accessories are from Nikon. There's no reason for it and it seems like a sleezy money-grubbing move. And that's from someone whose been shooting Nikon cameras exclusively since 1971. Peace, Brother

Hi there, and thank you for sharing! Help me understand, you bought these used from someone? It's a disappointment that the battery was not being recognized :/ I've used Wasabi batteries not only for the D850, but also for my GoPro, and I've had a very positive experience. A lot of people who've seen my to videos about the D850's Battery Grip have left me so many positive comments and have direcctly reached out to me to thank me.

No. I bought them all through KEH and B & H. When I bought the grip, the description did not mention it included the battery. I am assuming that just slipped through the cracks. and when I saw it, I thought, "Well, this is a nice little bonus" But it turned out not be work. So, I didn't technically pay for, so I haven't lost anything. If that clears things up...

Thanks for this, huge help. BUT I can't get mine to shoot at 9 frames still. I did go into the menu and chose the grip battery first but it still shows and shoots at 7 frames. What I notice is the indicator for the battery is now "BP" and is blinking. Also the battery level indicator is now missing.

Hey David! Sorry for my late reply. Try the following: After you have followed every step, take out the battery cover and the battery from the grip, and then put it back in. The blinking should disappear! Let me know what happens :) I've heard of this happening once. Someone reached out to me on FB, but it was an easy fix.

@@MassimosFotografie Thanks sooo much for the reply. I have done that many times and did it again after your response. When I take off the grip the camera returns to normal and I get the battery indicator with no blinking. When I put the grip back on the same blinking BP returns and the normal battery indicator disappears. If I just remove the Wasabi battery from the grip, I still just get the blinking BP. I'm now thinking there may be something wrong with the grip itself.

Contacted the manufacturer and they are sending me a new grip. I purchased the Chinese knock-off that actually says Nikon on it. It was 99.00 on ebay. great looking grip but two issues are error on the first grip and when attaching to a tripod it moves when pushed because it doesn't have the magnesium frame, just plastic.

Hi Vikram! I am not familiar with the Welborn grip, but it sounds like something may be wrong with the grip itself. I'd get a replacement. People have shared with me that they use Nikon's original BL-5 with a 3rd Party grip, but they've never had such an issue. Make sure that your battery grip is properly attached to the camera is not having any sort of disconnection issues as you touch/slightly move the grip.

@@derekgillan7314 Hi Derek! They say life is all about perspective. I'm sure the perspective you've shared as a mechanical engineer is more than valid. I have no doubt that the original grip is a higher quality grip than a 3rd party one. At the end of the day, I wonder what the probability is of the mount for instance failing, as you've mentioned. I've used the 3rd party grip for years and have put it through various situations, and I've never had any issues. And the many people who have reached out to me have also not encountered any issues at all. That's not to say that no issues could occur due to the mounts. I just wonder what the likelihood of that is. If there were any common issues that I was aware of, I would not promote such 3rd party parts. I promoted the parts in my video since I was quite happy with the parts myself. Cheers!

I'm not about to risk damaging it with non Nikon parts, I don't care how cheap they are. I'll spend the extra for piece of mind. I'm with you.
