20+ years off grid in just a small hand built cabin with a small solar power system but I have all the modern conveniences. Living off grid doesn't mean you have to cook in the woods or cut firewood or hunt for food. Those are personal choices not requirements for off grid living. I ran a local pest control company for years and now write books and design cabins for off gridders and make off grid adventure videos in my retirement. Having no house payments, no utility bills and the freedom to do what I want when I want is what off grid living has allowed me to do!

We just got approved by the bank to buy our off grid family camp. We will be selling our home and living there. We won't have quite the privacy you do but the others only come now and again and we will be 3 miles from a main road. People question our decision all the time but I always say, We're not getting any younger, this is the time to do it and it's what we truly want and we're so happy that it's happening even tho our challenges will be different. I'm also REALLY excited about making a new bigger garden than what I have here. I really feel for that man you were talking about.

Love the video Chuck. My family has a camp along the Cedar River Flow in Indian Lake NY. Its off grid and for hunting and sledding mostly. We've had some illness in the family among other things and last year we rented it to a nice fellow from Vermont. We got our hunting in closer to town. Your video made me miss the simplicity of camp and even though its just weekends at the moment I'm going to get back to it more often. She is completely used to the area and would go to the cabin by herself sometimes if I couldn’t make it. I knew then that she loved it as much as I and could handle it completely. It didn’t take much convincing, just a mutual choice more so than an individual one.

Hey Chuck! Ken here. I gotta say, mentally I’m prepared to be a mountain man. Full beard and all. .. as long as I can have a shower every day. Lol. Here in Nova Scotia I really don’t think there is anywhere left that a person can go that you can’t hear traffic on the roads. Or quads or something motorized. I think I would have to be dragged out by force to leave a spot like you have. I wouldn’t have much trouble leave civilization, there’s only a handful of people I can stand to be around anyway. Lol. Bottled rabbit, moose, deer,,,, any kind of bottled meat is way gooder than any other way.

@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors Your a still a young man Chuck. I have been through 2 shut downs and a somewhat forced retirement, all worked out in my favor in the end.
