Hi friend, first thing, any time you buy a winch, it should be mounted to at least a half-inch steel plate, and that will save it from breaking or twisting. I have them mounted to steel plates and had chain hooks welded on them to hook my chains to trees or large rocks. The plate gives it a lot of integrity. 2nd, always put heavy rugs or blankets or coats on the cable when pulling, that will save your life if the cable snaps,it will stop the cable from slingshoting and cutting som1 in half or ther leg off. Love your can-do attitude. you're doing a great job. I have 30 yrs of heavy equipment ownership and learned a lot the hard way. It's great that you show your struggles. Great videos, my friend, and stay strong.

No THIS is a great comment! We love learning from people like yourself that are willing to share their experience which will help shorten my learning curve. I will do exactly this. I'll get a plate and weld a couple of hooks on it and I'll never pull anything without a blanket on the cable. Thanks so much and thank you for watching! -Ryan

Please please please! Go get a forestry mulcher attachment for your Kubota. I have never seen ANYONE who could use one more! Watch some videos. You will be amazed at what you can do for your property with one. Probably $16-20k but I promise it will pay for itself many many times over for you guys. Once you watch some videos, you will immediately know. It will help you make trails (that aren't muddy) and will be incredibly helpful in thinning out your forest to help prevent a fire. Seriously....... if I could wish anything on you it would be that mulcher for your skidsteer. You'll be thanking me.

We thought of that, but opted for a track loader due to the terrain and low ground pressure the tracks offer. We figured a payloader would get stuck easier than an tracked machine. It's a tough call for sure, but I appreciate the suggestion! -Ryan.

Note to self>>>A SKID STEER IS NOT A BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG that winch needs to be bolted to a plate they do not work like that. Just wow ,it worked but she bent.
@mywildholm
2 ай бұрын
You are right, of course... had the winch been bolted onto the skid steer itself, then I could have run the line to the tree and things would have been easier. This was the first use of the winch... we literally pulled it out of the box and into service. We didn't have the material and tools to field install it to the skid steer, so doing it 'backwards' was our only option at the time. So thankful it worked (sort of). I'll have to see if I can repair the winch some day, and install it onto the skid steer as designed. I'll also be grabbing some snatch blocks to enable more options in terms of running the winch cable. Thank you for your comment, and thanks for watching! -Ryan.

Parts for the winch should be ezz to get and put on just get a 2" Reese hitch winch mount plate there handy .P.S my first winch fail i will share with you, dont let the winch line ball up on one side always use a snatchblock for the extra line out and double the pull half the speed, the line will last 5 times longer to. good luck i was just givin you some sh!t from Alaska lol keep her greasy side down

besides using the bucket to push yourself out, if you put that log (or an even bigger one) near the rear of the Kubota, with the winch cable going over it. Then the pull would be upwards and back and might have helped - at least you might have been able to put more stuff under the tacks that way.
