Here is what you have to remember. The better player will be favored in a longer race. Anyone can win a few games or a short race like in most local tournaments. Thats why the pros hate the Predator format going on now. Efren can go 2 and out in any tournament and turn around and run an 8 or 9 pack in the same day. Pool can be deceiving!! BEWARE OF SHARKS

Back in the day, that's how you learned. There wasn't KZitem back then to get advice. If you asked for help on your pool game, it depended on how much you were willing to lose. Hustlers will always have the advantage or they won't play for big money. Of he showed himself for small money...he's not a very good hustler and maybe just in the zone. It's frowned upon today because of the handicapping systems. I'm sure there are some hiding away. Some of the best pool players in the world are unknown. Money makes you focus more on what you are doing. It's also a test on nerves and pressure. Don't gamble what you can't lose, otherwise enjoy the lesson or enjoy the money.

I work in a pub in Scotland, we have a rule against gambling on the pool table but folks do it anyway. We have a regular who comes in every Thursday and practices by himself and occasionally plays other people, one day guy who we’ve never seen before comes in and plays a few games and loses, next week he comes back and skins our guy for £400.

@Rubster760. Good to see your here as well as on lil Chris channel and some of the Pro live streams. You mentioned in your post the guy might have been a strong 500 Fargo. That being said, as far as the APA player who had a SL of 7. What do you think a proper Fargo is for a APA SL7? I have heard some valid debates as far as APA SL are concerned. For example:: A SL7 in one state may not be a SL7 in another. I have heard this debate before which leads into another discussion/debate about League Operators assigning SL to players. Having never played in APA I have asked Lil Chris a few common questions which he provided some good info. I still have several questions about APA. I am on the fence so to speak about joining APA. Do you have any thoughts on APA as for someone who has never played in it? As for myself years ago I played a local league (bar table rules and safeties were not allowed and no BIH) which I didn't like at all. Now days I find myself just practicing alone most of the time. Look forward to hearing back from you.

I'm in the element phase of a screenplay I'm going to write and I've had a hard time justifying the hustler angle as being core to the story. Agree HAM and thanks. Tournament play/pressure is where it’s at imo. The battle that goes on between our ears when sudden death is upon us (during an event) can be more intense than loosing while gambling. The prestige factor is much greater as you are navigating through a field of strong players.

In my opinion most hustlers don't want anything to do with a gambling scene, or a tournament. Everyone has seen that. I play small town bars and pool halls. I go in shoot a few and try to find action. I'm not rated in any apa or bcs crap. I just want the best players that night has to offer then I'm out. I'm a truck driver btw . I have a table at home, and I just like to play with the best.

Let me tell you this. There are people at a Pro level, doing that all the time. The reason why they don't play tournaments is simple. They don't have time and money to travel and covering for all the expenses and do not have sponsorship. The guy you mention is not a good hustler, cause when some good hustler tricks you, you dont gonna notice, and that what good hustling mean, is an art. An example is Jason Kirkwood which in one occasion invited Efren Reyes to play bank pool for money and Efren refused. A friend of me who knows Jason told me that story. That happened on a Derby City tournaments a couple years ago.

The reason why we don't see anymore (hustlers in todays game, is because we now have plenty of money 💰 tournaments price. That allows a professional player to make a living of attending these tournaments, without needing to travel hustling ppl for their money.

Thank you J., for the input on this subject. I would like to add: I do agree that purse size can be a deterrent factor in the gambling world, this being said, there is still plenty of it going on even at tournaments by the pros. Here’s a spin off to what you’ve pointed out: By increasing the payout, there’s a better reason for doing so. Like with golf, with a consistent/huge purse, this would entice more average people to join into the game. I used to watch Pool (on ESPN) back in the 80s as an example. The winnings back then were actually higher than that of today. Did the big money attract average people to the game in those days? Since then, we hear that Pool is a dying sport as average people are less interested. Could it be due to the smaller pay outs at modern day tournaments? Hopefully, more sponsors will join in to make the effort more lucrative to travel and compete in tournaments around the world. This will take care of growing the sport imo. As for gambling, I think it will always be a part of the sport 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks again J…👍🏻

@@ronthepoolstudent I understand everything you said. But ur very misleading. Here's why, because (Billiards 🎱 tournaments has become a sport worldwide 🌍 now, where there's 'thousands of payouts prices that's suitable to each professional player. Meaning that pool 🎱 hustlers no longer has the need to walk into a pool hall 🎱 taken advantage of weaker players. Because majority of pool hall owners, longer aloud outside gambling in their premises. Instead they collectively unite and regroup with other owners to create tournaments for each class. Where hustlers don't have to seek the need to abuse those at hand.. then we also have the (Las vagas & other numerous locations where they have different high prices 💰 for players. The point here is that i use to be a pool hall hustler, same applies with other of my colleagues as well; that no longer needs to be walking around pretending to be someone ur not, or hiring a group of carpenters of drunkers 🍻 to play the roll as a watcher. Things like that is no longer visible at this stage. This is why (Hollywood 💫 no longer invest in promoting films 🎬 creating these types of stories. Because now everything is main stream and digital. Where ppl don't have to hustle looking for the next victim. On the contrary, now hustlers has the advantage to participate in those worldwide🌍 tournaments that is far more greater then what it use to be. The bottom line here is that the word, hustling no longer exist in today's society. Even in other sports as well.... it's very minor these days now. But you'll see a few percentage of ppl still tries to hustle. But is rare you'll come across it now.. because back then it was a modern style and something that ppl where trending. Specially those weekly tournaments that are constantly being promoted through (Instagram and other outlets

@@ronthepoolstudent you have to be more informed before taking time to give such insight, specially in today's society. Because you have to look at all factors dealing with this narrative. You barely even see any videos being surfaced talking about this. That's because theirs easy access to many tournaments. For example, I'd attend a (Billiards 🎱 tournament 2 weeks ago that had 3 different types of payouts. Which 1 of the two felt under my need. Meaning that i was able to walk in there with the mindset to kick ass, without needing to pretend or go through all hustle, just to get a few cents in my pocket. So instead i come in and just play my (A game 🎱 as supposed. Whether or not those players are professional. The point here is that i have a much better chance to pocket 💰 my money playing at a guaranteed tournament without any problems coming across me, nor neither do i have to deal with the middle man doing me the favor by disguising himself portraying himself to be a drunker 🍻 or any of the above... so regardless of how you look at it, if a hustle is attending a tournament he'll be hustling in such a different magnitude. But it wouldn't be the same kind of environment where he needs to hire others to fulfill a job in order to hustle others. But at least in the tournament he's able to work he's magic 💫 without the need of hiring no one, by just cutting the middle man out of the equation. That's the difference between then and now.
