People seem to forget Sands of Time isn't Prince of Persia. Lost Crown represents what PoP actually is at its heart. And the Sands of Time trilogy also represents a 3D take on ITS 2D ORIGIN. People must be too young to know Prince of Persia is a 2D sidescroller. And whoever saying MetroidVania isn't popular......huh? Every Resident Evil Game up to a point is a MetroidVania. Just switch a double jump power with......BOLTCUTTERS. Both serve the same purpose of backtracking to past areas with NEW TOOLS. Newest God of Wars also MetroidVania in part. Control is a MetroidVania. People don't realize MetroidVanias have long ago graduated beyond 2D sidescrollers and are the foundation for many 3D action games.

I don't care what anyone says, Warrior Within is not only my favorite Prince of Persia game but Ubisoft game overall. Yeah the story is dark and brooding, zero Arabian nights vibes, and it's peak early 2000's edge, but the gameplay still holds up perfectly and the soundtrack by Stuart Chatwood (who went on to compose music for Darkest Dungeon!) is glorious, all bangers. People often argue which Assassin's Creed game has Ubisoft's best combat or parkour, but to be honest, that franchise has never come close to how fun and fluid Warrior Within feels to play. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for my yearly replay of this masterpiece.
@janosd4nuke
8 ай бұрын
Whut? Stuart Chatwood in Darkest Dungeon? *madly reprioritizes backlog like if the MF-in' Dahaka is chasing after him* "Straight out of line, like I need further reason" Just to also also shout out Godsmack in the convo. And yeah, while Warrior Within has very different tone to the classic PoP vibes, it was the perfect darkest hour Empire Strikes Back for the Sands of Time trilogy and makes tonal sense that way. Tried AC, 2 and Brotherhood, always dropped them around the 1 hour mark then never looked at the series again. Assassin Creed is where you murder Prince of Persia, take out the fun bits and stuff the corps with the boring aspects of GTA LOL.

It's crazy to read the comments and realize that there's a generation that doesn't even realize that the Sands of Time trilogy is also a reboot of the series from the 80s. It also is weird to hear someone recommend the PS3 version, as someone who owns it myself, it's usually considered one of the lesser ports for all three games. Anyway, I got high hopes for The Lost Crown. The series has been in retirement for a while, but hearing that the Rayman team is working on it (if you haven't played Rayman Origins or Legends it shouldn't be slept on) and my newfound appreciation for the Metroidvania/search-action genre has me incredibly hyped to see them come back, even finally getting to old ideas (playing as the Prince's bodyguard rather than the Prince himself was an early concept that eventually led to Assassin's Creed)

Sands of Time (2003) is definitely the best of the entire SoT series. . . It’s so charming and whimsical, and has all the best elements of cheesy action movies like the Mummy and Scorpion King It has a romance subplot that’s actually quite wholesome and interesting, and the Prince and Farah have such a dope dynamic And it doesn’t have all the unnecessary edginess like in Warrior Within, while still being dark and depressing at times

Prince of Persia is definitely a timeless gem. It has been the most beloved game for million of gamers around the globe, so it was for me. Regarding the combat in Warrior Within, yes, it has a block ability. It doesn’t make it Assassin’s Creed. It’s up to you if you just want to stand there and block all day or if you want to be aggressive and proactive. The team gave you a lot of new moves that weren’t present in the first game, specifically to make the combat more interesting and engaging. If you just stand there and block, instead of actually using the game’s mechanics, just because the first boss required you to block from time to time, thats on you. Basically it’s a skill issue. Oh and you can’t really do combat like in Assassin’s Creed, because most enemies have a way around your block, either with unblockable attacks or by tripping you and punishing you when you’re down.

I finished Sands of Time, and I found that the end of it fit well with the end of a story, I tried Warrior Within, not hooked, and I never started Two Thrones. I'm old fashioned, I'm always trying to finish the original Prince of Persia, the one from 1989, finish it, already, and then, beat my father's record since 1997 phew... That doesn't make me any younger. At that time, a game was designed to be entertaining from start to finish, and for short periods of play, for those who don't know, you have an hour to finish the first PoP, not a minute more, it It's great for short gaming sessions, the labyrinthine castle is designed in a brilliant way, the fights aren't too long, the feeling of being lost every minute is very intoxicating... In short, it's installed on all my portable consoles for 25 years, and I still haven't managed to see the end of it, given that I don't watch a speedrun of this game to preserve the resolution of the rooms that I haven't seen yet.

I am sucker for heroes being able to turn into darker versions of themselves as much as the next guy. As much as I felt betrayed by the tonal shift from Jak 1 to 2, I fell head over heels over the "cool factor" that was Dark Jak. So when I saw The Dark Prince on the cover of Two Thrones that of course got me excited as well. Only problem in that game, is that unlike Jak where you are free to use Dark Jak whenever as long as your dark eco meter is full enough, the Dark Prince's sections are 100% scripted. You don't just have a button that let's you transform at will. Because unlike Jak's open-world platforming spiel, Prince of Persia is a "hallway game", meaning the levels are 100% designed to account for the normal Prince's agility, strength, and speed, and so you would break the game in half if you could transform at will into his dark half with increased everything. Therefore the Dark Prince sections are picked out for you, in areas where you NEED his super human strength in order to even survive, like being swarmed by tough enemies that normal Prince wouldn't have a chance against. Don't get me wrong these sections CAN be fun, but not being in full control of the power of darkness yourself is a let down.

Jak 3 was also my favourite, started with the 2nd one but could not finish, my brother fell on the ps2 and scratched the disc. Jak 3 came along and it was amazing.

My brother was addicted to these games. Especially Warrior Within. He also really liked the Reboot that stepped away from this main character. I havnt started the video so I don't know if Matty mentions it yet.
