Rock around the Clock was the first big Rock hit and it was a double entendre for sex. They couldn’t sing the other 4 letter word so Rock was the safer substitute. And it was a great energetic song that had a powerful danceable back beat! It was like the birth of a new era! And when Berry sang Long live Rock n Roll deliver me from the days of old, long live Rock n Roll the feeling is there body and soul! He really meant it and it meant something! I saw him play live at an outdoor summer festival years ago! He played until the Wee Wee hours and a good time was had by all! That kind of fun and excitement is long gone now! It was fun while it lasted!

Great albums by The Stones, Jethro Tull, Metalica, Alice Cooper, Ozzy and others. The last big surge for rock was the grunge genre, it will be interesting to see whats next. Rock and roll is alive and well in your small clubs and venues. Cover bands do a better job of playing the old dinosaur's music than the original artists do. Most clubs, at the most, charge a minimal cover charge, around here it's rarely more than ten dollars. There are endless small groups playing original music all over. People need to support local music. Cater to the small clubs and venues.
@catsofsherman1316

The Rock and roll hall of fame is in Cleveland not Vegas, but your points are solid about that sham. KISS ended their tour in December so hopefully we can talk about them entirely in the past tense. You are focusing on the dinosaurs who gouge people in stadiums and arenas. The real lifeblood of Rock is in the smaller acts playing clubs and small theaters. The legacy acts of the 60s and 70s are rapidly moving along the continuum. It's not realistic to expect them to put on shows like they are 25 years old. I know that's not what you were saying or implying. You make many valid points. While it's certainly important to call out price gouging and lackluster shows, we need something else to keep the rock spirit alive. The future of rock is not to be found in bands who put out records in the 70s. We need to support and nurture young bands who are the spiritual descendants of Zep, The Beatles, the Stones, etc. There are plenty of them out there screaming into the void. What I would ask you to do is find a new band or two and do an occasional video highlighting one of their albums. I know the reality is that those videos might not get as many views, but it's God's work. I would encourage any viewer of this video who read this far into my comment to do something this year. I loved the new Stones album and I know they will tour this year. I would say skip that show and use the time and money to support a young up and coming rock band. Mick and Keef don't need your money, but those struggling young bands do. This is how we keep Rock and roll alive. Here's a shameless plug, my Cats of Sherman album is a nice classic rock psychedelic rock album. It's available on cd and for download. It didn't make me any money despite selling well into triple figures.

Rock is definitely not dead it’s just harder to find. Radio is now a joke so are you gonna find it there? Nope. How about music publications? Nope. Where we can find new rock is through people like yourself Michael. People like Scot Lade at Prog Corner, people like Barry at Classic Album and people like Phil at Now Spinning. These people are the new music magazines that we rely on for discovering or rediscovering music. My personal favourite is prog rock and it’s just unreal how much excellent music is being made. Oddly the best prog is coming out of Nordic countries. It’s a Scandinavian Invasion Michael. So rock is very much alive you just have to flip rocks over to find it. Good music isn’t on the airwaves. Dear Michael. Thank you for everything you have done and are doing. Keep up the great work and the vids coming. You always have something very special to say and posesses a well thought of and concrete well underbuild opinion which is great to hear. I am a classic rock fan myself even though I am not from that era and still learn a lot of stuff from ''the greats'' from back in the day. I always look forward to see you have a new video released. I hope you and the misses are doing well, because personal life and health always comes first and is very important and prior to anything. I am just glad and we are all blessed we have people like you who 'knows their sh*t' (pardon my French) and are willing to share their thoughts, opinions, and teach the 'youth' a thing or two. BTW. : Rock will never die and will forever be played until the end of time. As a huge LED ZEP fan myself I truly hope that GFV keeps evolving into something of their own. However. I do admit that their latest album is to me rather ok-ish. There are some great tracks on the album and I really can lose myself also in their stuff. I just hope they do not however go deeper into this nowadays more 'political state of mind music' ever since Josh ''came out the closet'' and the band keeps bringing pure eargasms like they have been doing on their previous albums. People are entitled to their opinion, but I never seen GVF as a LED ZEP tribute band or copy/paste-ers. Rock on !

They all play the same 300 songs and Free Bird 50 times a week. Rock radio is so fragmented. With the "alternative" rock, "active" rock, ect. Of course it all traces back to when individual ownership of stations went away with the communications act. As Col. Trout told Rambo, It's over Johnny! It was back in 2005 I believe, Greg Khin said on his morning show on KFOX, for people to reject the rap & hip hop culture. he proclaimed it was ruining music & radio. Excellent Video as always. Rock isn't dead, its just not appreciated anymore....many "people" today don't really appreciate REAL MUSIC. Everything is digital and even if someone can't sing their voice is put through a processor to keep them on key and in time. Even drums are fake with drum machines that pick up to keep the drums in sync with the rest of the ""instruments"" I can even hear a live, under lying track, that ""bands"" now days play with, to keep them in time. Its almost like karaoke, but with a gigantic "production.".......

Despite annoying commercials- I have found myself going back to radio.. WXRT in Chicago plays some utter Crp, but! They play a lot more new music I consider rock. I think that rock has traditionally been antiCorporate, and the corporatization of society Taylor Swift and RBDiva pop, along with some "rock" like U2, McCartney, and Stevie Nicks, Springstein, etc ... fit well into the corporate paradigm.

I would be curious to see a video on what you think about early Dr. Hook? In particular the first 5 albums albums where Shel Silverstein wrote all or many of the songs. I am a big fan of both Dr. Hook and Shel's songwriting. The shear volume of songs he wrote for people other than Dr. Hook is remarkable. I enjoy listening to Shel sing his own song also, although I admit, he's probably an acquired taste as a vocalist for many people. But there is something about a songwriter singing their own songs even if they are not as talented a singer as the others who perform their material. Case in point, Pete Townshend's albums of demos. Pete sings his own songs with a subtle, extra feeling that Roger Daltrey can't quite communicate.

Of course rock and roll is still vital and not dead even if it is in modern music surely Michael you have seen reaction videos to old songs from the younger generation born in the early 2000s who are getting into great music from the past a lot of them are musicians themselves and there should be potentially great music coming soon in the future

People want the extremes: indie rock for those who are arty or wimpy, various forms of Metal or Hardcore for those more aggressive. Very few want new mainstream or alternative Rock bands - just the old mainstream or alternative bands.

Disappointed! Thought you were going to quote Zappa jazz ain't dead it just smells funny. Great video as always I think the newest band I dig, off top of head,is Graveyard but they've been knocking about for 25 years or so I encourage anyone who likes 70's influenced rock to give them a listen.

I strongly dislike radio. I definitely avoid the pop stations. My boys are metalheads. Meshuggah, Behemoth, Jinjer, Gojira, Pantera, Slayer, Anthrax, Slipnot, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Pomegranite Tiger. The last two are more Prog rock. Iron Maiden? My sons go to see them every year they come to Canada. Haven't missed them yet. Gojira is my fave. Greatest drummer on earth for me, is Mario Duplantier. I love his style.

Its being kept alive by the independent record labels so I think its going to be around as long as indie labels exist. The major labels that run the music industry are pretty much done with it. Unless its a pop artist or rapper or TikToker who they are marketing as a "rock" act.

I believe that the hey-day of rock is past. Rock bands just don't get the quality of producers that they used to, and this is reflected in their songsmanship. Their songs fail to rise to levels of greatness. Baroque music can be said to be thriving, but nothing new of the caliber of the greats has been produced. That cannot go on forever, and maybe it shouldn't, so as to make room for what's next in the evolution of music.

I google to find new creative artists especially in the prog/art rock department. Not much in the states but I've found some good stuff from other countries. Though some rockers don't count prog as real Rock, like the RnR Hall of Shame. I listen to the alternative Rock station in my car but few tunes are impressive. So much "new" stuff lacks melody or creativity. Pop is atrocious. I am subscribed to stations on KZitem that feature new artists or obscure artists. Suits killed creativity for the radio. Low sparks of the high heeled boys. I've always listened to Jazz and still do. Unfortunately the state I currently live in does not have Jazz station.

Rock and roll isn't dead, it's just hidden from the public domain more. I'm sorry, I don't like the recent trend to AI created "music" , with it's anemic auto tuned singers and virtually no musical interest. However, i still think R&R bands are still trying to break through, with creativity and proper musicians...

@@footbru not important that they be mentioned. They've been gaining traction so I was curious if people would come by saying "these girls prove rocks not dead", or "they're bringing rock back to life" or some such thing. I saw a couple comments, but not as many as I was expecting.

@@footbruI don’t know why, but I’m exactly the same. I’ve lost interest in male bands, other than the dinosaurs I’ve loved for decades, and listen almost exclusively to female J-rock now. And I too have been unimpressed with the Warning, though it’s possible I just haven’t heard the right songs yet. I WANT to like them!
